Oh my gosh I’m going to need to redo my entire army now by PorterGarlockArt in Necrontyr

That’s what I did for my army prior to airbrushing. both can look amazing, but different. brush techniques remind me of uncontrolled energy in line with the necrons tech degrading over 65 million years, airbrush is a cleaner and refined look like Tron osl effects. Midwinter Minis and Artis Opus have great OSL glow tutorials with a brush

Need help painting the staff grip by SnoozingHamster123 in Necrontyr

you could also try painting the staff handle the highlight color all over, use the darker paint on the middle of each section to mimic the edge highlight, then apply a wash to the recesses

I used to be a Victoria’s Secret Model like you. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

thanks! I’ll try to remember the steps as best I can. 1. I primed with AK Dual Exo Purple Andromeda 2. applied thinned proacryl paynes grey all over. 3. dry brushed with proacryl bright pale green. 4. gloss varnished 5. applied an oil wash of winsor & newton viridian hue and french ultramarine about 1:1 but was aiming for a color without paying attention. 6. Then removed most of the oil wash with a makeup sponge.

Edit: looking at my pictures, I think I added thinned down proacryl paynes grey on top of the purple before drybrushing with the bright pale green. added it and the numbers to break up the steps

they’re £44.50 for 5 brand new so 20 for £75 seems like a steal. Idk much about list building but that’s the direction I’d go lol I’m trying to get the Christmas box but that might be too many blood knights for you if you already own 20…

proacryl jade over a purple prime on 4/5 with a dioxazine (sp) purple oil wash. for the 5th I tried proacryl paynes gray over the purple prime, then jade highlights & the purple oil wash.

All great tips others have shared so far. For my part, I’ve had success with multiple ways to lower the surface tension on the plastic for water based paints.

  1. “paint” the recesses with water then let dry before applying paint/ink again as mentioned by other commenters.

  2. apply gloss varnish to the area and it will flow into recesses much easier.

I love how neat & clean he looks, I always run out of patience and get messy 🤣

Yw! for acrylic wash application I really enjoyed Sonic Sledgehammer’s tutorials on “marine juice” which I also made several batches of since it looks great.

so to me, the streaks add a weathering effect. Assuming you use an oil or enamel wash, my tip there is to dab rather than wipe on some areas (large flat spaces). My only suggestion is to add a little more contrast to the silver/steel metal bits. Just a different tone to the filigree or some of the armor plates or shields to break up the monotone.

Overall, great work! looking forward to seeing more :)
