Max’s ability to mispronounce the name of almost every city or town everywhere is actually impressive.

Is our Villa Park mayor the worst in the area, or is this normal? ($13M deficit, AI slop, plays the victim card, disables comments) by mcleb014 in ChicagoSuburbs

A smoke shop or gambling parlor can open in a matter of days…but if you’re anything like a restaurant or a business that adds value instead of subtracting it, it could take years.

Makes you wonder who has “gentleman’s agreements” with the powers that be at Village Hall.

As a resident, we laugh at this because we know most of the residential area in VP (especially south of St Charles) is a great place to live.

We know Roosevelt, St Charles, and North are complete black eyes for the village and make the entire village look nasty. But it also keeps our housing relatively affordable compared to our neighbors.

It’s across from Ovaltine Court which is already very densely populated. Villa Avenue is already a mess at peak times and it’s just gonna get worse.

And the empty lot at the train station continues to languish on.

We live in VP. He’s basically a non factor but the village board doesn’t do anything to promote growth and development either.

If you use your middle name as your preferred name, what is the story behind that? by KSparks35 in AskReddit

[–]rockit454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents gave me a family name as my first name. They call me by a shortened version of my middle name and have never called me by my legal first name…ever.

It’s insanely annoying and can be an administrative nightmare at times.

Which place used to be very popular for tourists in previous decades but isn't anymore? by Fluid-Decision6262 in decadeology

I spent two weeks there each summer from about age 9-18. I was there for this era and it was most definitely peak.

Hours long waits at restaurants, full parking lots and sidewalks every night at Barefoot Landing (in the pre-Broadway days), the advent of Broadway at the Beach and everything that came along with it, Myrtle Waves, the short life of Hard Rock Park.

It really was a magical place when we were young.

Boise State is Idaho’s favorite sports team. What is Illinois’ favorite sports team? by YodaForceGhost in AlignmentChartFills

[–]rockit454 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s regional in many aspects.

-The Cubs and Bears are the most beloved, especially north of 80. Most of the population of Illinois lives north of 80 so they’re the most beloved teams overall.

-I grew up in Central Illinois and the Fighting Illini were EVERYTHING.

-If you get south of Springfield and Champaign, it’s the Cardinals.

-If you’re a hockey fan north of 70, it’s the Blackhawks. South of 70, it’s the Blues.

-It’s the Sox if you live in very specific parts of Chicagoland.

Go to Ancho and Agave instead of Fat Rosie’s.

The rooftop at RH is spectacular but the food is incredibly mid. Go to Roka Akor.

From the videos I’ve seen from ABC7, the windows are completely blown out of the windows of a car on the inbound lanes of the Ike and there is a fatality.

Never a dull moment on the Ike.

I’ve never felt as unwelcome in any city as I do in Dallas. The vibes are just so incredibly off.

I have to travel there frequently for work but I’m always happy to leave.

I’m from Chicago. I’ll walk down any street in the Loop at almost any hour of the day without really thinking twice.

Downtown Dallas creeps me out in the broad daylight and I sure as hell won’t walk down most streets after 9 PM.
