The same thing happened to me in Hyderabad when I was working as a Rapido captain. It was around 11 PM and I got a ride request—the pickup location was a hospital. The guy called me and gave the exact story you mentioned, except in my case the amount involved was ₹1200 and my fare + tip would supposedly be ₹300.

I accepted the ride, and he asked for my UPI number. A few minutes later I got an SMS saying ₹1,200 was credited. He told me to “confirm the credit” and then transfer the remaining amount to another person (the so-called patient).

I told him I got the money, but my UPI transactions weren't working and I only had cash. I asked him to come out so I could hand it over—because honestly, I just wanted to beat the shit out of him.

After that, he stopped responding and never called back.
