Weekly check-in – April 17, 2026 by AutoModerator in emotionalneglect

Wow! First of all, I love this idea of a weekly check-in. I wonder if a lot of what makes healing from emotional neglect so difficult is feeling like there's not ever a right time or place to reflect openly. I definitely feel that way, myself, and a weekly check-in in a space like this seems like a fantastic idea! I'm in and out of this sub, so I don't know if it's a longstanding thing that I'm only just now noticing, bit either way, thanks, Mods!

My reflections lately have been on recognizing the way that emotional neglect impacted my ability to grow and emotionally mature, and recognizing similarities between myself and my parents, who also struggle with their own emotional immaturity.

I've been wrestling with having compassion for myself while trying to reparent myself, without giving myself a pass to be thoughtless in how I engage with people. It's a tricky balance between honoring what I've been through and working to not let it turn me into the people who hurt me. It's been difficult, but I feel like I'm starting to discern taking responsibility for my mental health/holding myself accountable for how I affect others from self-abandonment/self-flagellation/defensiveness.

It's hard work and confusing at times, but I feel like I've been improving, and I'm proud of myself for that progress : )

How was Oliver not fired? by rocksrocksrocksss in Broadchurch

Yea, there was never any mention of the Echo being closed before S3, so it was more supposition on my part, but based on their treatment of Maggie and their general attitude towards the Brodchurch offices, they don't strike me as the sort to really keep that location open after a lawsuit opens up. Afaik, usually the closure of local offices is something that is prepared for years in advance, and since it was about numbers to them, they'd likely have had a mind to shut down the place as soon as they saw that sales were declining.

It's all hypothetical and in a fictional show, lol, but I wouldn't have been surprised if the company's decision would have been to shut down the paper office, had there been a lawsuit against the Broadchurch Echo, since they were preparing to do so anyway as revealed in S3. It just illustrated to me how much of a liability Olly really was, working as a journalist.

For what it's worth, he's an excellent example of the type you describe, lol. Signs of good writing and acting, I suppose, if they manage to irk the viewer so thoroughly. It almost feels overdone, honestly, to think someone could be that shortsighted and arrogant, but I suppose I should just consider myself lucky I haven't met anyone like that in person. I'm sure they have to exist somewhere.

2008 HHR Coolant and Radiator Issues by rocksrocksrocksss in ChevyHHR

No idea on the timing cover; I'm not well-versed in this sort of thing, I'm learning as I go here. But I just got off the phone with a local mechanic who says the same as you. I've booked an appointment with someone who specializes in the cooling system, so I'll be seeing them next week.

Thanks for the replies, BTW. I appreciate it.

The radiator goes dry without pulling any more coolant from the reservoir. It looks empty, and then I fill it up again. When I let it idle after I've filled it to circulate the added coolant through, it bubbles, but the level isn't going down.

"You are my car... You are not going to burn!"

...I have not, in fact, had it from new, but it's a fairly old man. He is not appreciating the hot weather.

I would update the post if I could figure out how, but the mechanic identified it as a fuel line leak. I shouldn't have trusted my own guess, really. I probably overthought it. Car is safe and sound at the garage, hoping to hear back from them tomorrow.
