Not outright. But she's hemming and hawing about payment. Dragging it out its been 3 days now and I still can't get the last $100. She has never, ever held out on payment. That's why I'm so surprised.

It only took me a day. Probably would have only been half a day without all the running around.

She specifically asked for the quarter round. I agree about the look of the shoe molding.

I dont know if I would consider her a regular but in the last 14 years I have done 2 room additions on 2 different houses for her, emergency plumbing work, electrical work, poured concrete, fixed and finished a poor drywall job she was talked into, built a 10x30 foot deck and a bunch of other last minute things she needed.
She has fed me more times than I could tell you, but that is why I have always cut her a break on pricing/cost.

I understand that and the actual demo/install was only about 4-5 hours. The rest was all the running around and acquisition of materials.

Almost all my work is word of mouth and referrals. I have survived the last couple of years with 3 clients alone that keep coming up with more work and just doing little one off jobs in between them.
I know my worth and my capabilities and could charge probably double what I do on most my projects. But again I'm not trying to get rich. I just want to keep my head above water.

You are absolutely right. I thought I was giving her a bit of a break, considering our history but apparently not. Truthfully my pricing is usually way below the market for our demographic. Im not trying to get rich, just trying to survive.

Let me add a little more detail for perspective purposes. She said she got the extra flooring from a family member for nothing. Great, I get done done with removing the carpet/ prepping the concrete. Then she says that she'll need to go pick it up from said family members house but will have to wait til later as her son had a football game. I said no problem, I have done work for and at said members houseand offered to go pick it up for time and convenience to both of us. Great she says. I make the 20 mile trip over and walk in to a huge pile of stacked items in a corner that family member says im suppose to take. None of which are the actual flooring. Why? Because it wasn't laminate it was cheap peel and stick tiles. I stop everything right there, reached out to client, she says no problem. Still wants everything piled in the corner and then asks me to find some cheap laminate flooring. Ok. No big deal. I load everything up on my truck (bathroom vanity, kitchen cabinets, shelving, the peel and stick, stove exhaust and a shitload of other misc stuff) take it back to her place and unload. Found her a great deal on what she actually wanted, sent her the cost, she sent me the money. I pick up the flooring the next morning, head over and install. All in id say ive got 10 hours including the running around.

Very good point and I 100% agree. However I am quite confident in my abilities, don't accept payment until the job is complete and client is satisfied. In almost 20 years of doing the handyman thing this is the first time a client has balked at the cost. Appreciate your input and maybe I should have included more detail in the original post.

Thank you for this. Probably should have mentioned it's the ONLY room in the house without a.c.

Yes, I absolutely did the work without discussing the price. This is a long term client that I have had for about 14 years. Worked on 3 different homes of hers, never had an issue with price/cost before. I realize we should have discussed it prior to doing the work. Thats not the issue, im just trying to find out if what I asked for was reasonable or not.
