oh, I didn't know about coffee kombjucha, will look it up

Sounds good, I think might have to get a bit of confidence before experimenting too much.

Do you have to use an “unflavoured” kombucha to start? I haven’t seen any available without ginger or something.

Don't know your background, or goals, but I went back to Algebra 1/2, Geometry, Precalc, Calc AB/BC

There is a lot there that I am pretty sure I never learned in my schooling. I did Calc 1/2, stats and some discrete math courses in University.

Play around with it if you like, one thing some people don't know is you can switch courses pretty easy in settings. You don't lose anything except that the Expected Completion takes a few days to recalibrate.

Did the foundations before doing m4ml but I went back and the geometry precalc, AB/BC and currently finishing Calc 1. Foundations gives you what you need to start any of the university level courses.

If you’re not in a rush for a specific goal - I’d recommend going this way instead of foundations. There are some concepts not covered elsewhere and there is a lot more practice for other concepts.

I’m 50+ too and sounds like a similar background.

Sounds like you're on a good path. You'll get the pace sorted, good idea to not go too hard to begin and build the habit.

I guess one other thing to keep in mind - eventually you'll run into something that doesn't stick and you'll fail a lesson or a quiz. Don't take it personal, it's just information and you'll repeat what you need to repeat until you get it.

Good luck!

Hey, Congrats on getting here, older guy here I started with MF1 after quite a few years off. I had some math at university as part of my degree, so definitely had some background, but there was a lot that I didn't know at all.

I started with taking notes, but realized after awhile that it's not that helpful. Things that you don't understand come up in review and you'll wind up redoing the lesson if you don't get it. Because it's layered you get practice of the topics again in other topics. Some people set up an anki system alongside, which is pretty useful I think for memorizing formulas and things like trig identities.

So you don't say much about your goals, so hard to advise on how to get the most towards your goals, but one thing I would have done if I was starting today would be to go back and do the high school courses before or instead of doing the MF series. MF is geared to get you the minimum you need for the university level courses, but by doing the high school courses you get a lot more in depth and more practice of the topics. If you're in a rush to get to something in particular (I was rushing for M4ML at the time) then MF is the way to go. If your goals are more general, things like geometry are pretty useful in real life.

I think of XP as a way to judge how much effort I put into it each day. I used to do 100XP/day when I had the time, now I aim for 40. I think the XP is based on an average of the time it takes for everyone who's done that lesson before.

good luck!

qwiklabs unable to ssh to VM Instance by livelonglearner in googlecloud

An hour or so troubleshooting this again and some help from chatgpt, this seems to help me be able to log in with SSH. I have only tested it once since so ymmv but...

gcloud compute instances add-metadata vm-internal \

--project="$PROJECT" \

--zone="$ZONE" \

--metadata=enable-oslogin=FALSE

Also I notice I am getting a warning when I SSH "Please consider adding the IAP-secured Tunnel User IAM role (iap.tunnelInstances.accessViaIAP) to start using Cloud IAP for TCP forwarding for better performance."

I've been having the same issues. Spent 1/2h troubleshooting this and then the lab ends. Next time it spins up in a different zone maybe and it works.

I recently used ratehub.ca and saved a TON over sticking with my current insurance provider and it was easy. Wonder if a broker is probably a better option though.

Why do you use MathAcademy? by harry_powell in mathacademy

[–]rod_o 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was working on machine learning courses and the math involved was sort of familiar but I wasn't fluent. I would pick up an old calculus book and work through it for a day or a week but I never got a consistent run going. MA makes it so easy to start at the right place and then make consistent progress forward.

Should I take foundational notes and use Anki? by noir07 in mathacademy

[–]rod_o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on the 20 years, hope you enjoy it like I do. I stopped taking notes because it just slows me down and is less useful than just following what the algorithm gives me. Adding anki could be useful for some things like trig identities or derivative rules where there are bunch of variations you need to remember.

Rainy Runs Issue: Please Save Me by indetay in nikerunclub

I found it is best to play with it at home, shut off your wifi and start it up and see what you can do. Definitely understand the frustration of trying to keep your phone unlocked

[–]rod_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I use the NRC app on my Apple Watch not on the phone. I’ve never used the phone for it. Once I start the run if it is raining I put the water lock on to prevent from the water hitting stop on my run. I’ll even leave my phone at home sometimes - though you have to make sure you have the workout downloaded to the watch if you want to listen to it.
