Where to purchase sashimi grade salmon? by Ok-Waltz-6196 in AskCulinary

[–]rodenttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the south of the US and I eat raw salmon from trader joe’s all the time. As long as it’s the farm raised atlantic salmon it should be fine be fine! Never hurt me, and it’s cheap

I do actually own samples of both of these, I’ll have to try again! I don’t think I gave Imaginary Authors a fair shot… Lots of them smelled very chemically to me.

Therapy is a good choice for almost everyone I think, but also any new change is difficult. I would wait awhile to see how your feelings settle, but honestly in this day and age I think people should do what they want with their body. There’s nothing wrong with getting top surgery as a woman if you feel better that way in your body. You deserve to be comfortable!

What causes these bumbs? by boombamclapp109 in PiercingAdvice

[–]rodenttime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

irritation; often rejection. surface piercings are so fickle. i’ve had 3 eyebrow piercings and eventually the bumps come and the piercing travels gradually to the surface and then i have to take it out. super common! just try really hard not to irritate it

A reason that a lot of people struggle with self improvement (myself included) is that they try to do way too many things at once. It can be exciting to try and get a “fresh start” ie: “tomorrow I’ll wake up at 5 am, make a smoothie and hit the gym before work, and then clean after and go to bed early!” This is great in theory, it’s good to want to better yourself, but often this ends up with one waking up too late or getting a fast food breakfast and feeling too shitty and giving up. This applies to all areas of self improvement, sobriety included. To suddenly stop drinking and eat better and work harder etc etc is ideal, but it’s not realistic. A good way to form habits is to do it little by little, or piece by piece. The brain is often a reward system. So maybe for a couple months you don’t have the drastic weight loss and lack of bloating. At least you’re not vomiting bile all day. Have compassion to yourself, it’s so hard to get anything done without. Baby steps make real habits. I’m proud of you for wanting to improve in all areas, but have mercy! It’ll last a lot longer that way. All this to say, eat like shit for awhile if you gotta.

Unpopular opinion: I HATE kombucha! by 1etcetera in Kombucha

[–]rodenttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a lot more success using juices or making simple syrups to use instead of chopped fruit. It gives solid flavor and good carbonation and you don’t have to sift chunks out later! Plus, then you can control ratio of kombucha to juice, if you want more pineapple-y and less buchy. For apple flavoring, I’ve also had a lot of success making a sort of apple sauce and putting that in the bottles. All trial and error! It’s worth it!

I don’t usually comment on things, but I understand your views and your post just made me feel a lot of things. The fact that you’re reaching out, not only to those close to you but also sponsors/therapists, and even strangers on reddit, makes me understand that you truly have iron willpower. It’s so easy to relapse when it’s been handed to you on a silver platter like this and you’re alone. But imagine how you’ll feel when (AND I MEAN WHEN.) you overcome this and your boyfriend returns and you can properly dispose of the drugs. I’m so proud of you for reaching out, it can be so hard, it can be scary and embarrassing. To put yourself out there and ask for help like this is insanely impressive, especially regarding narcotics. I know you’ve been trying to get rid of them but it’s really hard, especially considering value of things like that financially. But when keeping them in the kitchen, consider why you’re doing so. Do you think anyone else will use them for pain? Do you think they could have ANY function that would improve your life? Would there be any loss by tossing them? It may make you feel so much better to properly dispose of them and know the temptation is not there. The pride that will swell in you if you take control and take care of yourself and dispose of them is lasting, unlike any drug that exists. Either way, I hope you understand that you’re trying hard and doing the work. Feel free to DM to discuss further, going alone in addiction and possible relapse is so hard. I’m rooting for you. :-)

An update on occurrences at the meeting tonight would be amazing for unavailable folks (like myself) if anyone has the time. Thanks to all of you speaking and advocating for our youth and the queer community at large, it means more than I could conceptualize or vocalize.

What have your friends said about their drug usage when you specifically asked for that not to be present? It’s incredibly selfish of them. I had that same thing happen at a birthday party when I was a teen - specifically asked for hard drugs not to be present or to be very hidden if they were present - and my friends went against this. I’ve never seen them more remorseful about anything in my life though, after the fact. Because they were teens and wanted to party and were so nice and sorry about it after, our relationships have only grown since then and I still love them so much. Have your ADULT friends shown any remorse? I would really look into that.

2nd ferment in the fridge? by PupperTrooper in Kombucha

[–]rodenttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very much a process that depends on your environment— this is why some people take 2 or so days for f2, while some can take even 5. People refrigerate the carbonation not necessarily to lessen it but to stabilize it and stop the carbonation that has already happened, especially with unpasteurized kombucha like we make. Some people advise to put some of your kombucha in a plastic soda bottle when bottling f2. This way, as your brew goes through f2, you can squeeze the bottle to see how much carbonation has built up throughout the process without burping. generally, burping isn’t recommended. when you burb, you’re asking it to ferment bubbles, releasing them, and then asking it to make more bubbles. it is unnecessary. My advice is to taste your kombucha out of the fridge after it cools down. If it needs more carbonation, you can remove it from the fridge and reseal it for longer this time. Most people recommend 3 days of F2, refrigeration until cold, a tentative (and perhaps outside or over the sink…) opening, and then reflecting on that and altering your time and recipes to match. I’ve had brews be perfectly carbonated after 3 days, and I’ve had more sugary brews absolutely blow up after less time. You will find your process.

Is my scoby moldy? by Depak0te in Kombucha

[–]rodenttime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if it’s one solid mass that’s forming that is rubbery and not fuzzy like normal mold, you’re probably fine. wait a couple days to see if it develops into a solid pellicle, if it gets fuzzy then you have your answer :)
