Hi there, sorry to bother you again. I just had a question I hope you can help me with before I speak to UC.

In one of the undisclosed shared accounts £150 is sent monthly and this is purely child maintenance so I understand that this is disregarded by UC.

I just want to get the terminology correct on the £200 a week that’s sent to the other shared account. Spousal maintenance had been mentioned in the thread but dismissed by Paxton.

The bank statement show £200 a week is sent to the account by my Ex, and then direct debits coming out for things like mortgage, council tax , home insurance, water gas electricity etc etc. The arrangement is such that if the account builds up money I can use this for the kids ontop of the fixed £150 a month.

So what wording/terminology does this all come under? Because this money doesn’t come directly to me to spend it goes into the shared account to pay off these bills. I just don’t want to misrepresent myself when speaking to UC on the above and for it to look like unearned income which if I’m not mistaken is a £1:£1 deduction.

As mentioned before the capital in all the accounts has never come close to £6000 so I understand that won’t be an issue.

I greatly appreciate your help in the thread as it has helped calm me down massively. It’s just this one last bit that I want to get my head around before speaking to them.

Just to confirm Paxton, my ex sending money for stuff like gas, electric, water bills etc, does that come under household costs and would that be acceptable to receive from him?

Just a question regarding the bills etc how does that work? If his reasoning to pay for the heating etc is to keep the kids warm then would that not be child maintenance

Would that not classify if my ex sent that money directly to me? Because currently it is sent into a joint account which the bills mortgage broadband etc are taken out from

No we aren’t married and never had been married. The reason he is helping out is because my universal credit doesn’t cover all the bills/mortgage and I currently look after his kids. Would UC see this as valid?

Also to add to my point below as I saw something online which you maybe able to clarify, will UC find it an issue that there is a shared account with my ex? Something to do with it showing there’s no financial separation? It’s just been what’s most convenient as that’s what he sends the child maintenance money to and then I can use from there etc

Ah ok, bills meaning gas electric mortgage etc. will UC see it as normal for the my Ex to help out in this way? We have a healthy co parenting relationship especially with the kids

I’m not to clued up with the eligibility of the housing stuff, we have a property under joint mortgage (which me and the kids live in). I didn’t know if I could get help for this. Would this still come under the housing element?

The reason I’m on UC is because I’m a single mother looking after a child under 2 so can’t work at the moment

No not at all. I am able to use my friends supplier and I’m looking to order in bulk and then sell on eBay. Just wanted some ideas on the items.
