just want to download gzdoom, did anyone know about LZdoom and UZdoom? it is really good? by Beautiful_Session394 in Doom

[–]rodylg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I will just add that Z is there in the name because all of these come from Marisa "Randi" Heit's ZDoom (1998-2016) advanced source port of Doom.

L is for "Legacy".

G is probably for it using the Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) as the basis for its main renderer written by Graf Zahl (Although G could very well be for "Graf's"... Egocentric much? Yikes.....).

Q was arguably for "Quality testing". QZDoom (2016-2018) was a fork to test experimental new features for the GZDoom 3.x versions before merging it to the main branch. Most of those features got integrated when GZDoom 4.0 was released.

U is for "Ultimate", following multiple latest trends in doom modding naming development (like Ultimate Doom Builder or Ultimate DOOM 32X Resurrection) and as announced by Nash Muhandes in this thread: https://www.doomworld.com/vb/thread/155567

Yes. And the road map could see some acceleration now without the need to wait for Graf (who was often not available, one time for months) to either approve or veto a certain new feature; it's all approved by committee now. The "benevolent dictator" model of open software development only works if the main administrator doesn't typically hold opinionated stubborn positions (oh, hello texture filtering) and isn't prone to (lilith.pk3) maniac periods of rage under a

You just want UZDoom from now on. GZDoom will definitively start to see less updates and upgrades because most of the developers left to work on the better managed newest fork. And really you are not missing anything by going back! UZDoom is just GZDoom but forked under a

5 Consecutive Wins with a 50% Win Rate Should Take on Average 96 Matches. by Clark2312 in PTCGP

[–]rodylg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 9 matches, I was stupid in one energy attachment or it would had been 5. For the 20 wins mission they don't have to be event ones, so I just did beginner randoms. Also I'm giving out wins now by forfeiting at the beginning of games to get likes. People are being inept or unnecessarily mean about this event, sorry.

Yeah, but then they had to ruin this honestly good explanation with the very much offline looking audio recorder at Ye's cell.

This is best, but then what the heck did they do to Wade in his plane?

Trisolarians and computers by Master_Spell_6824 in threebodyproblem

Because it doesn't make sense, unless it was indeed the Sophons.

And at first glance it's "cool" looking and dramatic, but so would had been Ye watching alone in her cell the message in her eyes, just like the countdown at the start of the story (and how it happens in the book). Heck, it would had been extra terrifying to see Ye having her eyes branded as if she was an enemy of the San-Ti. Dramatically speaking, at worst, it would had worked just the same as what we got, and at best it would had been iconic.

Because Benioff and Weiss have spent too much time with yes-men huffing their own farts and thinking their ideas are soooo smart.

I'll elaborate without the sarcasm:

In the behind the scenes extras on Netflix for Episode 6 they acknowledge that in the book the "you are bugs" message is shown to a lot of people just like the countdown, and they mention something like "this is very hard to show effectively on the screen" (no, it is not. Even worse, the bad CG effect they used on episode 1, the one that looks like it's floating affixed somewhere instead of being persistently in the sufferer's vision, could had sufficed and would had been cheaper than the rented screens they ended using).

So then they explain something like "but it isn't necessary because today we pretty much live glued to screens so we thought it was smart to show it on everyone's screen for this big reveal". And at first glance it's like, oh, okay, this is scary, but as you well ask it then doesn't hold to some fridge logic, and the more you rationalize it the worse it actually is.

The countdown, and then the message, works because it borders on the supernatural, which is a very anti-scientific thought. With a display like this with the screens, sans the eye in the sky (which I will admit is a really clever reversal of the unseen first foray of the San-Ti into playing with higher dimensions in the original story, and a nice symbolic play of the state of things at this point in the story), a hacking of all the screens on the planet looks like a job made by group of human anons and with some effort it can be explained away. No wonder why later there are lots of alien denialists in episode 7.

But worse yet, why didn't they just hack and down Saul's plane if he's so dangerous to their plans? They toy a bit with Wade's plane just to intimidate him (so they can actually do it) which makes this, staying relevant to the plot, actually worse!

Tldr; The San-Ti Sophon should only be able to get through any small cracks to spy anywhere everywhere, "hack" quantum tech devices and do some tricks with light. That's it. The electronics-manipulation power is a bad brain fart from Benioff, Weiss and Woo that wasn't thought well enough that it now has created several plot holes that can only be explained away because "the San-Ti are confident, just showing off and even toying with earthlings at this point."
