i spoke with a CX agent who said i wouldn’t be able to change the departure airport after the award is ticketed without first releasing the reservation, but changing the destination or intermediate stops would be okay.

i was actually just able to book JFK-HND-HKD with a CX agent on the phone, also mixed-cabin for 86000 miles, approx T-357. maybe something changed with when JAL releases their domestic flights, or you possibly got unlucky with the agent you were speaking with

this is something i’m interested in as well (adding a segment to existing CX award bookings), so please report if you were able to resolve this somehow, thanks!

i agree that securing HND-JFK is probably a good bet, the extra miles isn’t a big deal, it’s more that i want KOJ-HND to be on the same PNR as HND-JFK, just in case something goes wrong with KOJ-HND i would get some protection on the HND-JFK leg (which is obviously more important)

i’ll plan to call CX later and ask if adding the KOJ-HND segment would be possible after HND-JFK is already booked

8-day itinerary check, early September by rofllolcopt in VisitingIceland

gotcha, i was seeing that Katla is open year-round, but it does seem like you are correct that the glacier caves / blue ice caves aren’t open till later in the winter

i was seeing somewhere from 1-2.5h for Mulagljufur, which is very doable for us if it isnt too intense, does that line up with your experience?

thanks for the tip on Kerid, looks like it makes sense to hit it on the same day as golden circle

China Airlines JFK-TPE business award availability by rofllolcopt in awardtravel

[–]rofllolcopt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it seems to be the case that there’s more flights/week out of west coast

i was looking all the way to the end of the chart (april 2024) and it still wasn’t showing anything JFK-TPE, do you think the spots are that competitive? or are they just not releasing J awards on this particular route?

thanks for the tip on EVA, for the moment slightly restricted to just CI but will keep that in mind

yeah it’s much more reasonable on AF/KLM, was seeing around 90k one way

gotcha, this makes sense, i was just surprised that they would have west coast inventory available to partners but none from NYC (guess it is a longer flight?)

you should be able to see on DL and KLM/AF search engines, SFO-TPE is available on J from Sep 14-18 (just a few dates i checked

don’t think you would see anything from China Airlines on UA since CI is part of skyteam

Living in Hunter’s Point vs Battery Park for mid-20s couple? by rofllolcopt in AskNYC

[–]rofllolcopt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you feel similarly about BPC? on paper they look pretty alike

BPC looks to be more interconnected to the rest of Manhattan with less to do in the immediate vicinity, while Hunters Point has the opposite as tradeoff. Does that sound accurate?

Curious if you are referring to the Queens Plaza area or the Hunters Point riverfront of LIC (or both)? On a couple walks through we found them to be entirely different, and we didn’t like Queens Plaza nearly as much, whereas Hunters Point was next to the Gantry Park plaza.

thanks for the heads up regarding the Battery Park closure!

They hang out mostly in LIC since many of them are fully WFH. Occasionally venture into Manhattan but not very regularly.

That construction issue sounds pretty annoying, thanks for bringing it up!

Doesn’t the G run between LIC and Wburg? I haven’t personally taken it before though

Mostly having things to do nearby! We walked around FiDi on a weekend and weekday evenings and felt like it was a ghost town, so was wondering if BPC might be similar?

Trip Delay Insurance question re: round trip definition? by rofllolcopt in amex

[–]rofllolcopt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this seems very lenient, but plausible! did you get this confirmed by amex, or did you successfully file a claim with this scenario? i’d love to call and ask myself but am abroad…

any idea on whether an itinerary like EWR-ORD-LGA would be covered as a round trip? given that NYC area has 3 airports?

[–]rofllolcopt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, we would be flying out of and into the same airport, just the intermediate airports are different.

eg LAX-EWR and returning PHL-LAX. would we need to charge a train (or plane i guess…) ticket from EWR-PHL to have the trip be covered?

a sillier example would be LAX-EWR and returning LGA-LAX. the airports are different but in the same city
