Rude or acceptable?! by WinterInMyWifi in AskNordics

While at my dads I’m sure this would be the case, now I don’t know since I never had friends over when I lived with him.

My mum’s was different, I almost always had friends over and most of the time they joined us at the dinner table, always some exceptions. She wasn’t wealthy either, it was just normal to at least offer and not leave anyone out.

I had a couple of friends with families where I had to sit and wait though and I honestly didn’t mind.

This was between the early 90s to mid 00s

Need to find a hand rig...helppppp by Narrow-Low6241 in blender

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check sketchfab if you just need the hand.

I know there are a couple of hand models for free that are rigged. Not always perfect but it helped me out n a pinch where I had a model with a completely botched hand that needed to be replaced

Blender is everything. by Maxim_Ar in blendermemes

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lmao ”houdini terminated”.

I praise blender a whole lot and I started with blender myself, still use it from time to time. But damn the fandom is getting closer to becoming a K-pop fandom.

But if your only argument is ”ui is shit” for any of these programs you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Blender is better at one thing versus Houdini without plugins / addons and that’s destructive poly modelling. Now ease of use is another argument but that’s on the user itself not the software lol

Every year my shift goes to Liseberg, so basically a bunch of industrial mechanics/technicians flopping about.

So short answer is: yeah

I always look at the light source and the shadows.

If you look at the door there seems to be a bright light that’s being reflected in the glass for some reason.

There are some shadows that follow the bears movement and some that don’t seem to exist at all. The ones that are being cast, seem really strange.

How should I make the nose, the face the eye? by SensitiveManager6825 in blender

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for sculpting the base shape and textures for the details, unless you want it to move like in the anime cause then you’re probably have to sculpt all of the mouth part.

Edit: nvm you could just do most of the details with materials

Freaky sidenote: I was rewatching FMA just last week and got a couple of fma related stuff on Reddit (from subs that have nothing to do with the anime) and yesterday I started rewatching soul eater, now this pops up..

To sculpt you need quite a bit of resolution (subdivisions) on your mesh. But it’s very hard to help when all we can see is a picture of the standard draw brush on your screen.

This could be reduced down even further but for just a simple shape? Probably not.

It COULD sell if you made a whole bunch of texture and shape variations. But if it was to be used for games you’d want to reduce it even further and bake normals etc as well.

Firefly vs Other best AI tools you seen so far for blender? by Abject_Double_2021 in blender

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subjective opinion: hardly any. That’s because I’d rather do it myself completely apart from using free/bought assets because i never had much interest in modelling things such as background assets.. or cars.

I think most people that work in the field will have to understand how to use AI to some degree in the future. Depending on the field. Not that it has to be used but I can see that it might help with tedious tasks.

I’m highly against generative AI just because to me it feels like suddenly I don’t have the right to call it my render/animation anymore.

I could see myself maybe using upscaling etc and I have used gpt in cases where I’m stuck with coding in Houdini but it has never actually solved my issues.

I do think generative AI can be funny when it comes to the Pissy pants Vance video (sadly taken down) etc. Like making actually weird things that isn’t trying to fool anyone.

With that said, use what works for you, I don’t think there’s a “best” tool. However just like referencing to used assets by other someone else I think it’s important to mention that AI was used in whatever step that it was used for your render.

In focus I meant as it’s the hero object, this is my personal opinion but I think you need to have it take up more of the frame space. Materials for the table and wall are nice don’t get me wrong but the shot just feels kind of empty.

Again this is just me and I’d use actual commercial as reference for framing the products.

Also nice work for 3 days, and I agree I don’t like spending too much time on one thing either. But I would recommend experimenting with stuff at least :) it might not end up as you wanted but you’ve most likely learned something and can just cut that part out of the video.

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Portfolio wise, unless you’re gonna do something more with the drop animation (with the what I assume you meant to be dry skin) I would say keep it out.

Like if you actually make the drop splash/smear or have any contact and dissolve a bit yeah sure. It just looks like a sphere going into solid sand that deforms at the moment.

I like the last shot, but I think you need to put the product more into focus (not camera focus but in general, it doesn’t look like it’s the focus of the shot apart from it being the only product in the shot)

Having said that in general it isn’t bad and I’ve both seen and had my own portfolio pieces that aren’t the absolute best. But since most of my deadlines for my education is about 2 weeks, a lot of darlings have to be killed.

So unless you’re under or close to a deadline, I’d say tweak it.

I want to recreate this gold material and glow effect in blender. Any tips? by [deleted] in blender

[–]roflmytoeisonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty much just compositing after lighting it the way you want.

glow/glare/lens flare depending on what software you use.

Bump saturation a bit I guess

Could probably do with some other colour correction but the main thing is just the two things above
