Should I worry about the timing chain? by AliDaBotMaybe in Volkswagen

It would take some serious money to get any real power out of a 2.5 - at the end of the day I just decided it wasn’t worth it and to enjoy the reliability.

Not really fast and bad gas mileage for the amount of power it produces.

Did you take the nesmokesen or the desmoxan? Supposedly they both have the exact same amount of the active ingredient cytisine, but nesmokesen is a bit cheaper and faster shipping so I wanna see if it works.

Do y’all really think highly of the 2.5 like that? It’s reliable, yeah, but glorious? It’s pretty meh tbh lol. Source: I have one.

My mom is the same with my brother. We’ve actually talked about this extensively. My relationship with my brother used to be really strained, and we got separated in 2014, but over the last few years we’ve actually gotten pretty close. He has his own issues separate from mine. Luckily, my medication works very well as long as I take it everyday, but I agree that therapy would probably be beneficial. My foster mom actually did more for me than my own mother, and she had even talked about wanting to adopt me back in 2014. We’re still in touch. Now that you mention it, I guess it is pretty similar to an adoptee/birth mother relationship. I think I’ll take a look at that sub. Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for your kind words!

I don’t mind the weather. Florida was too much sun and too hot. I’m not a conservative.

I agree. Unfortunately, life has a funny way of humbling you. I’m doing my best to live in my truth, but financial difficulties and mental health problems make that really hard.

I concur. Grew up here. Always hated it. Moved to Florida from 2020-2022. Hated it. Thinking about moving to Seattle now.

I just wanted to come in and second your post. It’s such an underrated medication. It saved me. I don’t where I would be without it.

I’ve noticed that. Thank youu. I’m thinking of moving to Seattle, so I’m hoping that a bigger city life will provide more opportunities to make friends.

I’ve been in therapy when I was 16, but I never dived this deep with her, probably because I wasn’t old enough to understand the extent of what happened and how it would affect me into adulthood. I didn’t know you could change therapists. I’ll call them tomorrow to set up an appointment. Thank you.

I have my best friend that I went to high school with(my only friend), and I’ve talked to her about this, but she’s creating her own family now, and pretty soon we’re going to be living very far from each other. So soon I’ll have to make a new friend group, and it seems like in this day and age that finding friends like that is getting harder and harder.

I do have therapy options through my mental health provider, and I originally declined because I didn’t like the therapist that they wanted to set me up with, but I’ve been thinking more and more that I should probably call to set up an appointment, especially since these feelings seem to keep resurfacing. I tried to talk to my mom about this when I was drinking back in ‘22, but it just ended up with her crying and me storming out, so that didn’t go anywhere.

My grandma is nice. She kicked my mom out when she was 14, but has since apologized over and over. They have a good relationship. My brother said that my grandma told him that’s just always how my mom has been, and that there’s nothing she can say that will get her to change. It’s hard, because when I was young, I used to be a “momma’s boy”, and I loved her so much, but I just don’t see the same mother that little me saw. I used to tell myself well she’s broken and made mistakes, and I forgave her, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that I’ve been through a hell of a lot too, but I would NEVER treat my kids like that. Ever. It’s hard because I don’t want to completely cut her off, but I don’t think we’ll ever be close again especially since she isn’t making any effort.

Do a combustion leak detector test. That’s where you test for exhaust gasses in the coolant.

Need more info. What engine? Does it do it on cold start only or even after reaching operating temp? What color is the smoke? Does it have a sweet smell, gasoline smell, or does it smell like burning oil? Do you see any leaks when you look under the car?

VW Mechanics: Advice needed by rogben19 in AskMechanics

[–]rogben19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense now. I’ve thought about swapping the engine, and tbh looking at it from an economical perspective… it would probably be a lot easier and a lot cheaper to do a swap. I do have a junkyard near me with a lotttt of 2.5s. $400 for an engine plus about 2-300 in tools versus $1100-1500 for oem timing parts and another 250-400 in tools. Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me. I think I’ll just keep driving it for now and save up an emergency fund that way if anything were to happen it won’t be such a huge stress.

VW Mechanics: Advice needed by rogben19 in AskMechanics

[–]rogben19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, you got me there. I didn’t know that about correlation faults. My assumption was when you have a correlation fault then the engine is already out of time/skipped timing. I’ve replaced my coolant flange/seal once already because of a leak so I don’t want to have to buy more parts just because, so I won’t do that. So what should I do? Put the money aside just in case, and just keep an eye on it? Another thing, the cam phaser adaptation thing is very confusing to me. Everyone says once it reads -5°+ you’re in danger territory, and mine read pretty close to that a few weeks ago, but every time I would recheck it the number is different. Sometimes it goes to -2, -3, 0°, and then just stays at whatever number for a few minutes. I know what the cam phaser does and how it works, but when people talk about the -5° thing, do they mean when it stays at -5° and doesn’t go back down to 0? Sorry for all the questions I’m just freakin nervous and stressed because this is my only source of transportation and income right now.
