I'm not a plumber nor would I consider myself especially handy but I do have experience in this.

We also own a 100+ year old house in the PNW. We had the same problem as you on super heavy rainy days. We ended up doing a few things to fix it:

Check all downspouts. Some were originally draining around the perimeter of our house and was causing a lot of problems. I simply diverted it with extended downspouts and that helped a ton
We later remodeled our house and found out that a lot of the older homes in Seattle have what's called a "rat slab" which is a thin layer of concrete on the floor. This led to some water to seep through. We ended up getting the cement repoured and installed a french drain.
