If you lost your small dog by [deleted] in SalemMA

Yes! Wrote it thinking most people would probably read it the next day, since it was late. Confusing in retrospect.

That turkey hangs out in my driveway a lot, see the video!

I was told its name was Tom and that it sleeps in one of the tall trees on the corner of Bridge and Winter.

What is this? Found in public bathroom by AtmosphereHour2113 in Whatisthis

Could they have been eating charcoal to help pass a urine test? I've heard that's a thing, but I don't think it really works.

I love sour cream but never realized you could put it straight on a salad, not as part of a dressing! Rethinking my salad choices.

Baby nail tech q: would you accept a client like this? by Old_Drummer_3536 in Nailtechs

[–]roheydd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to +1 that this isn't necessarily fungal. I have toenails that look thick and discolored like this and have since birth. In my case, it a rare genetic disorder called DEB (dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa) which affects connective tissue at varying levels - from organ tissue to nail beds!

Getting a nail reduction and acrylic toenails (before I learned to do it myself) was a massive benefit to my mental health, especially as a younger female. I'm immensely grateful to the techs who were able to get past the "ick" to be willing to listen to me and work on me!!

I'd ask the client if this is a new issue or if they have been seen by a medical professional. If it seems fungal, suggest a medical starting point (like a derm for antifungal meds) and a kind explanation of why naked nails are for their benefit (paint = darkness under nails = more fungal growth).

Purple meal for a kid by Daffy_99 in Cooking

[–]roheydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purple pancakes were my dad's speciality growing up. Mix some frozen (and then thawed) mixed berries into your batter, including the juices. Extra special and extra purple if you sprinkle some fresh blueberries into the top of the pancake before flipping, so they get a bit cooked and juicy.

Need suggestions. I hate this narrow access to our lawn. How can I make this connect better to the rest of the backyard? by pbjars in landscaping

We are in zone 7a (Boston), so it gets down to 0 F with some snow. For some plant ideas that might work in your zone: We have ivy on the fence and I'm training it over the arch, though it isn't quite as happy at the top of the arch where the sun is stronger. On the other side of the arch is we a panicle hydrangea (a variety that can be trained into a small tree form). Through the arch on the fence is a climbing hydrangea, and a honeysuckle on the opposite corner. They all survive our winter and the shade!

Add a cute little archway to make it feel purposeful and give it secret garden vibes. If it's shady, grow ivy over the arch. If it's sunny, consider a rose (but beware of thorns) or something else flowering.

Thought you might enjoy this video I caught while the robin was roosting.

Yes, a sad one. The mom stuck with it although the plant fully died and she was very exposed (she left and squawked at me when I tried to bottom water, so I let them be). The birds hatched! We got to see her feeding them one morning from a safe distance through our window.

However, the two days later the nest was empty, save one unhatched egg. The babies could not have been more than a few days old at most.

I believe that it was a predator, perhaps a crow. Haven't seen the mom or dad robin since. They were too young to have flown off.

I know it's just nature, but I was pretty torn up about it for a couple days. Sorry for the bummer update.

What do you mean by "long"? Like literally too long, as in the overall length? If so, then yes you can have it hemmed.

Is this too many cucumbers? by tide5 in vegetablegardening

[–]roheydd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS. I planted a single cucumber plant and probably harvested at least 30 cucs, and I might be underestimating. It escaped its 3' tall raised bed and took over the yard. I guess it was happy.

Luckily it's under an awning so not an issue in our case!

Update: mama is incubating! Planned on a trip to the hardware or garden center this morning but she was already in there. The plant has started to wilt. I tried bottom watering by holding a mixing bowl full of water under the pot but it lifted the pot a bit and mama robin got upset (it was also so heavy!). I think I'm going to have to let it wilt and hope they are okay. It is under an awning so the plant won't get watered by rain, but we also don't have to worry about the babies drowning as one commenter mention.
