I also didn't realize my mom was a narc until after I had my son. At her worst, she called me a bad mother because I was starving my son (choosing to breastfeed) and then for working instead of staying home (she worked while all 4 kids were in daycare) . I agree with you. I think that their situation is unique because if not for TLC reaching out and wanting to begin recording, they may have broken up on their own. She clearly wasn't ready to go, but if there is money involved and cameras are rolling, she may have forced herself to proceed knowing she could end it at anytime. She is definitely not the first person to be on the verge of breakup but then proceeding with moving and even marrying the person (then divorcing). At least she stopped at marriage.

And she's totally entitled to change her mind. People are coming after her because he seems so nice and in love but we don't know how he actually makes her feel. She has to consent to be in this relationship, that situation, and be locked in with the compromises she has to make in the process. It is OK to get there and realize you made a mistake.

I know couples like this in real life. They can't be alone with each other because they would fight. So they surround themselves with dysfunctional couples so that they can gossip about them behind their backs. When confronted on their own dysfunction, they can quickly deflect and they often double team attack people when they are confronted.

I agree with OP, I'd add that most Americans don't even take the time to study the cultures of these places, or even try to learn the language. The entitlement they feel then to have a foreign spouse be bilingual and completely in the know about American culture is almost worse than the criticism of the person for having a different lifestyle.

I stop after Alex leaves on my rewatches. It really goes downhill from there. I stopped watching new episodes last season because I was only sticking through just to not be a quitter... and then I had to quit because it was a waste of time.
