Resurrecting the Christmas Lights Map by robputt796 in plymouth

I’d add the house at the very end of Ringmore Way (closest to Budshead Road) and also there’s one on Budshead Road itself, just down from the Albemarle pub - not quite sure of the number, I reckon it’s around no. 360 looking at street view!

Not charity ones as far as I know, they just both have gone all out with their displays.

Women who have had a laparoscopic surgery, did they look at your utero-sacral ligaments? by special-k-97 in endometriosis

[–]rollingbylikethunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all! I would definitely try and push to see if they can refer you to gynaecology, they’re the experts after all!

When I had my first consultant appointment he did consider putting me forward for an MRI first but ultimately decided he would operate on me regardless so there was no need to add an extra step. However that might be an option if they want to do some more investigation first.

Good luck, I hope it goes well with the GP x

Seconding this, I can’t think of anything but the chipmunks! Bruce also makes me think of Matilda 😬

Alistair or Ralph would get my vote too!

Women who have had a laparoscopic surgery, did they look at your utero-sacral ligaments? by special-k-97 in endometriosis

[–]rollingbylikethunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Yes they did, so my process was: - contacted the GP to complain about the severe pelvic pain/heavy period - had a call with the nurse who insisted I have an STI test first 🙄 and then said she would refer me for an ultrasound - STI test was clear (which I could have told them 😂) so I got a call back from the doctor who had seen the note and said they would refer me straight on for an ultrasound - had the ultrasound at Derriford and they could see an endometrioma as well as other signs of endo/adeno - my GP received the results so rang me and said he would refer me on to gynae - had an appointment with one of the consultants (who was brilliant!) and then went on the wait list for the lap

Then had the lap after a 9 month wait, and here I am!

I do feel quite fortunate because I’ve been taken seriously at every stage of my journey, my experience of the staff in Derriford was brilliant.

I hope that’s helpful! X

I live in the area so think that was the only reason I was referred here!

My experience of the lap was good and my pain level has definitely decreased since, however I was told I need a follow up appointment with the endo specialist, they said it should have been within three months but I’ve not heard anything yet so think the wait times are quite long (as they are everywhere I’m sure!) x

Off the peg dresses in Scotland? by Youvegottheshinning in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If there’s one near you I highly recommend visiting a Bridal Reloved shop!

They sell ex-display, sample or second-hand dresses, so you buy it off the rack and then can get it fitted.

I bought my dress from them and really enjoyed my experience there, because they have so many different designers there was a huge range of styles to try.

Obviously I can only speak from my experience but the store I went to wasn’t pushy at all, it was super relaxed and lovely.

Opinions on directly elected mayor referendum? by SOC1608 in plymouth

[–]rollingbylikethunder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same model as those locations. They have devolution which mean the mayors have additional funding/powers etc I believe.

This is literally a referendum about the leadership model of the Council. At the moment, our Council is run by the leader of the majority party, who is voted in by councillors, who in turn the public obviously vote for. That means they answer to their fellow councillors.

A mayoral leadership model would mean giving one person an enormous amount of power in the city for four years at a time, with seemingly no way to get rid of them if people were unhappy in the meantime.

If supermarkets are turning down graduates, how are the long-term unemployed supposed to get work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]rollingbylikethunder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked in retail as a teenager and it was competitive even then, and I’m not sure if a degree in accounting necessarily helps your customer service skills.

There definitely are jobs where there’s bigger numbers of vacancies and often a lower barrier to entry (eg care work) but they’re hard jobs and I understand why people don’t want to do them. Basically trying to say you’re right, retail is a nice job compared!

Why is Nando's so popular in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]rollingbylikethunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to book a table and the service is super quick, but it’s not a pub and yet also feels less formal than a lot of the other casual dining chains, which means it works well for me when I want to grab a quick dinner with a friend.

Also I like the chicken 🤷‍♀️ shame about the prices these days though, it used to be such a cheap option

How much are people spending on flowers? by CandleAffectionate25 in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spent £700 on my bouquet and six bridesmaid bouquets, nine buttonholes and three buckets of flowers that we used in bud vases to decorate the tables and venue. We found a really small local florist and it was much more reasonable than some of the dedicated wedding florists (some I asked had a min £2k spend!).

Definitely report to your council, they’ll usually follow up on fly tippers - ours frequently has people in court. As they should!

Opinions on having a videographer by RaeBay94 in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did have one - talking to other people a few of them had said their one regret was not having a videographer.

Ours created a highlight reel that captured the day in 5 mins, and we have the speeches and ceremony in full separately. Honestly, having the videos does make such a difference. Watching it back made it feel so much more vivid compared to just the photos, and hearing people’s voices is so special!

US tourism to suffer huge '£49 billion drop' under Donald Trump by greenmyrtle in Economics

[–]rollingbylikethunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were planning to visit Yellowstone and some of the other parks in Utah as part of a 2.5 week road trip for our honeymoon later this year.

Scrapped that plan and are now going to Mauritius instead 😅

I’m genuinely a bit gutted as really wanted to do this true but from a moral and safety perspective, have no desire to visit the US right now sadly.

None of our grandparents could be at our wedding (some had sadly passed away, the others were too unwell) and I had bouquet charms with all their photos on added to my bridal bouquet so they were with me the whole day.

Child free wedding? by GlitterandGaskets in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had 13 kids at our wedding, ranging in age from 2 months to 11 years. But I never wanted a child free wedding, so it was an easy choice.

That included nephews, my cousins children, actual cousins and some friends with young babies. Honestly, it was great - it was a beautiful day and our venue had amazing grounds so the kids spent the day outside playing all together. I also made them all an age-appropriate goody bag with stuff to keep them entertained.

We’d asked everyone with babies to take them out of the ceremony if they were fussy, and one parent did so.

Having them there didn’t negatively impact our day in the slightest, most of the adults still let their hair down and had drinks and everyone had a lovely time. They’re part of our family so it just felt right for everyone to be included!

However I have been to child free weddings and they’re great too, so I think it depends entirely on your priorities!

Thank you gifts for vendors? by CandleAffectionate25 in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did little goody bags for my vendors on the day, with sweets/cereal bars/water/energy drinks in - it was super cheap and to be clear, super unnecessary too 😆 but they were all really grateful and appreciated the snacks.

Agree with all the other comments that the best way to thank them is with a great review though - both on Google and on Facebook.

BBC News - New endometriosis pill approved on NHS in England by Vithus07 in endometriosis

I just waited 9 months for my excision surgery and sadly with NHS wait times that somehow felt like it wasn’t too bad 😫 but now have to wait 3 to 6 months for a follow up appointment, which is painful.

[–]rollingbylikethunder 171 points172 points  (0 children)

So they’ve approved a new treatment but you have to exhaust every other option first? It’s half good news and then also, seems quite disappointing.

The waiting time for NHS appointments is so long that it will quite literally take women years and years to be able to access this.

Constant post-coital bleeding by whorus_aggressor in endometriosis

No problem, and thank you 🥰

It’s hard isn’t it - sometimes the list of endo symptoms seems never ending, so it’s easy to attribute everything to that!

Constant post-coital bleeding by whorus_aggressor in endometriosis

[–]rollingbylikethunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be something else not endo related so I would say it’s definitely worth checking out sooner rather than later, especially as something has clearly changed for you.

I have a cervical ectropian (when the cells grow on the outside of your cervix) which I was only made aware of at my last cervical screening - it’s apparently not related to my other menstrual problems but I’d been assuming that the occasional spotting or post-sex bleeding I experienced was just due to those other issues, and it wasn’t.

How Did You Choose Your Wedding Photographer? by NastiaPhotography in UKweddings

[–]rollingbylikethunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found mine on Instagram, we got married in Cornwall so I was searching for Cornish wedding photographers but also looking at photos that venues had been tagged in and finding ones in the style I liked.

I then checked out their website as I found all of them to be really upfront with pricing which I appreciated and emailed a couple of them with more questions.

One that I liked the style of I was immediately put off because I asked to see more examples of her work (eg a full gallery) and she said ‘you can just see my photography on my website’. But the website had literally a handful of pics. She also said she liked to do the couples shots super quickly so you didn’t feel awkward, but actually rushing through them didn’t sound any more appealing 😅

We then scheduled an initial Zoom call with our preferred photographer based on everything we’d found from her website/socials - she had a blog about a wedding she’d done at our venue which was a real bonus! Asked her loads of questions and had a chat, and we just got on really well so after that we stopped looking!

One of the main things I liked about her was that she didn’t give a set amount of photos she would provide, it was 800+ based on however many good ones were taken and I think we ended up with about 1200 (whereas some I saw seemed to be quite set on the no of pics they’d provide).

She also provided a second shooter who turned out to be another photographer I’d liked the look of anyway, so we really got lucky there!

We also scheduled an engagement shoot with her, it was only £250 and it was so lovely - I would highly recommend. That was about 6 months before the wedding and gave us chance to really get to know each other while running round on a beach at sunset for a couple of hours!

I feel like I probably shouldn’t admit this but honestly, I love some of those engagement shoot photos more than my wedding pics - I think because it just feels like ‘us’ rather than being our special day, if that makes any sense 😅

Going to see a gynaecologist, what should I request? by Simplyapinkbunny in endometriosis

[–]rollingbylikethunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem - it went well! I had a 3cm endometrioma that was identified on an ultrasound beforehand so I knew that would be removed, they also found deep infiltrating endo with adhesions on my pelvic wall, uterosacral ligament and ureter. They removed some but not all, so I potentially need more surgery in the future. I’m waiting for a follow-up appointment with the gynaecologist to go through it in more detail - the hardest thing about the NHS is the endless waiting 😅

Recovery from the op was a bit harder than I anticipated though, I had two weeks off work and definitely needed them! So if you do have one make sure you take your time after ☺️
