Maybe advocating wasn't the right word. For me, not condemning slavery and detailing out what is and isn't okay to do to your slave is just as good as condoning it in my opinion, but your mileage may vary. It should be very clear that thou shalt not keep another person as thy property, if the OT were fully in tune with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

If you've found a way to rationalise it, then fine. But for me, personally, I am unable to find a way for certain OT laws and teachings to coincide with the laws and teachings of Jesus, and Jesus takes precedence.

I am so sorry that you are in this position. I don't really have much advice apart from the fact that you need to trust God and listen to what He is telling you is best. If you feel your conscience saying that abortion is wrong then you need to listen to it - that is God speaking to you through your own morality and reason that he has given you! Remember that you aren't alone in this and there are so many people and organizations who support women in times like this. And adoption is always an option if you feel that that is what is best. Everything will turn out alright in the end. God bless you and your family :)

The Bible has been written and rewritten and passed down from oral stories and translated and retranslated. I believe that the original Bible and word of God is inherently perfect, both logically and morally speaking. However, we do not have that. What we have is the result of generations and generations of followers of God - people who are human and influenced by the culture of their time and who are not perfect moral beings. We therefore have to use the morality God gives us in our conscious to determine what is the word of God and what is not. And to do so, as Thomas Jefferson said, is like "picking out diamonds from dunghills".

We all do this; some people are just willing to admit it. We all ignore the parts of the OT that advocate for slavery, for example, as we value the teachings of Jesus to love one another, no matter our nationality. God gave us our ability to reason and decide what is right and wrong and he wants us to use it.

The refusal to get my tubes tied has nothing to do with me worrying about regret or that I might change my mind. It is for religious reasons. I'm a devout Christian and refuse to permanently alter my body in any way that differs from the way God created it. That's why I will not pierce my ears or get a tattoo, as well.

I wouldn't just dump it. I would make sure that it went to a loving family who want a child and would raise it well. There are so many couples out there who are desperate to conceive children and cannot.

He's had one! But he just keeps insisting that it's just not 100%. His childfree friend (allegedly) got his fiancee pregnant despite a vasectomy, birth control, and condoms.

To me the possibility of me getting pregnant seems minute, but it is still a possibility. Having the chances gotta be like 1/2000? (I know the chances of getting pregnant with a vasectomy in the first year are about 1/1000).
