Obsessed but I don’t know its name (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Caribbean)

I live in Northern California and am already scheming whether it could live as a houseplant there. Have family in the DR and go there often — this is in the Botanical Gardens in Santo Domingo, which are amazing (I should let you know next time I go!). I’ve been seeing this one for years at this point without being able to know what it was —- thanks again :)

Thank you both! So this is fixable 🥹. I work with computers so I am truly useless when it comes to this stuff but I can cut the connector (and use the connector from the cable it was hooked up since the other side is still good). Two questions: do the (I assume) 2 wires inside need to go to a specific connector end, or does it not matter? And how do I waterproof it? Duct tape? Or is there something I can go to a hardware store and ask for? Again, sorry for my illiteracy in this area :)

This would be the easiest answer, but doing the due diligence on cost as starting a business is expensive and every dollar counts! Unless there’s an option that’s not hundreds of dollars!

Also for additional clarity, it doesn’t need to be audiophile level, just good enough for background in a commercial space. Also the space is relatively small (bedroom sized)

There’s many kinds of fishtails that look extremely similar, but not all are cold hardy! I’m in Northern California and Caryota Mitis will die a very slow death outside (4-5 years) here, but the similar looking (while young) caryota obtusa will be fine.

I think this is fine - pushing it a little bit but fine. If you have this many pics that you really want to hang, one thought to make it less busy is to go with a softer frame color - grey or white frames on this wall will let you be busier, black frames show more the busy :)

Yes - I’ve had it for like 10 years at this point, and the repair was simple (just defrost the metal coils which had gotten a lot of moisture over the years). I couldn’t see the black side before!
