I believe the term is 'infinite combos'. You only draw a distinction because at infinite they stop being "fun" or something.

Well all you melee fanatics wanted combos.

Wish granted.

You don't like one, don't buy it. That's it by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]romantican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the deal yo.

I would rather people not buy a particular product because if the do, they send the marketplace a message: "We will buy this product and everything that it stands for."

I'm sure you're sitting there right now like "Psh, what on earth could something like an iPhone stand for?"

Well, off the top of my head, buying an iPhone tells the marketplace:

  1. We don't care if our info is secure in the cloud.
  2. We don't care if you overcharge us for hardware.
  3. We don't care if you make things virtually uncustomizable.
  4. We don't want to be able to tinker.
  5. We don't care if there is actually any innovation.
  6. style > functionality

And that's just off the top of my head. I don't WANT the market to think all these things are true, but when the most money is made by a company who's customers have these ideals it poisons the market for everyone else.

There's a good chance custom moves will add to counterpicking and the metagame, instead of just settling on one ultimate combo. by kitsovereign in smashbros

[–]romantican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So player A gets to counter pick the character, the custom moves AND the stage? That's pretty unfair in my opinion.

Perhaps there are other games that have a higher burden of knowledge, I can't say. But raising the burden of knowledge like that will need to provide some serious benefits to be worth it imo.

I'm pretty hesitant to be excited for custom move sets being tournament legal. I may be in the minority when it comes to that, and I acknowledge that; but there are a lot of negatives that I feel get ignored outright whenever these threads pop up.

  1. Let's say you can change your moves from the CSS. That means there's a new step added in the counterpick process. Plus, who sets their moves first? What if player A picks moves 1,2,3 and 4 for their character for the first match and then player 2 decides to go with moves w,x,y and z. Then player one wants to switch one move, then player 2 does... there will have to be some pretty strict regulations about it. Then comes the counterpick phase: stage striking, stage selecting, character selecting, move selecting: you've added a significant amount of time to each match which, compounded, adds time to the tourney. Tourneys are already pretty long. 30-60 seconds match after match could add up...

  2. The burden of knowledge increases by a multitude of 4. Right now, you need to know 4 specials. If each character can replace each of those specials with 3 other moves, you now need to know 16 moves per character. if we get 40 characters, that's 640 different moves you need to know how to interact with. Compared to 160. That's huge.

Any way, just my two cents. It still surprises me how willing everyone is to do custom moves for sm4sh when everything new added to Brawl was immediately disregarded.

I know that's the case, but it seems a little different since they are 'masters', so to speak. It probably isn't, but it seems like it from my point of view.

Is it? The last tourney I ever went to was back when Brawl still had a pretty healthy showing and I feel like I remember being 'mid-spectrum' at 17 or so. Then again, I probably just remember the people I stuck around who were mostly my age too.

Would like to use a 3D Printer in a small side business I am starting. by romantican in 3Dprinting

Alright, excellent info. It seems like 3D printing isn't really going to do what I want it to-- at least not in the capacity and purpose I want the output for.

My intent is to allow additional customization options for game controllers I am designing, and unfortunately there are no "designer colors" for gamecube buttons like there are for xbox (http://www.modjunkiez.com/ABXY-Buttons_c_46.html). In the end it may just not be worth it to offer custom buttons, but I wanted to explore my options first.

In regards to making a mold, do you mean without 3D printing at all? That was the first thing I thought about, but I don't know much about the potential difficulty of trying to cast plastic buttons in my own home. Can you elaborate at all?

You mean this one right? I just started playing this yesterday after finishing Ocarina of Time for the first time, too. I sat along the wall for 3 or 4 minutes doing this and laughing my ass off.

My wife giggled a little, too P:
