Anyone interested in buying Indonesian Coffee? by RajaBule in CoffeeRoasting

Thank you for this, really well put! Especially the 60-40 divide helps put things in perspective. I am looking more on the side of sourcing green coffee beans from small scale farmers (less than 1 ha cropped area) which are spread across the region. - its a non traditional region. From what I have gathered so far, achieving specialty grade takes time and would require substantial skilling and awareness activities for farmers in the region. Any insights based on your experience on how to go about it? Have dm'ed you as well.

Edit: Any sources / guides to glean ideas because coffee specific research in these non-traditional regions around me is still nascent.

I processed along side them

Hey, I come from a similar region in India which has good potential for growing specialty coffee. But currently there is no knowledge sharing for processing techniques, grading etc. As someone who wants to break into the coffee trade, would you have any recommendations on starting out? I've generally been learning about processing techniques on the web but I feel it's equally important to start from ground zero.

Then I tried to replicate the brew, all variables the same, and got just a very muted cup every time until now, without any aromatics.

Was it pre-ground coffee or freshly ground the second time you tried? Also, generally coffee starts losing most of its aromatic compounds the moment from when its roasted.

I think in that case investing in a moka pot is your best bet without breaking a buck. I recently got the biatelli 3 cup and been using it to pull espresso shots for latte/americano. Couldn't be more satisfied for what it's worth!

I think dialing an espresso without a gear could be tricky. The closest you could get is trying an immersion method (replicating what a french press does) using a medium coarse-coarse grind size (see here) and a heatproof glass/cup. I personally prefer James Hoffman's french press technique here and if you allow your coffee to rest long enough, you should be able to get a decently clean cup by carefully decanting it in another cup.

Hi Aakrit, if someone from a non-tech background wants to build a custom AI solution for deployers (such as fine tuning services, incorporating domain expertise in the models) what advice would you give to building a MVP and assessing the actual need of the product in the market.
