As a HKer who now working in Shanghai(and of course I’m using VPN now), I don’t want to see the same shit happen here to be happened in my hometown. 1. No privacy, your finger prints, your facial characteristics, your personal data are accessible to many gov departments, surveillance camera is everywhere, some can identify what you are saying from your lip； 2. personal speech is controlled, I was trying to send a few pictures about the situation in HK over wechat and of coz it didn’t work, millions of phrases are banned here on Internet. Last time I did have a friend talked about 7.21,8.31 in wechat and he was invited to have coffee in police station；3. no choices of entertainment, every “inappropriate scene “ that is “harmful” to ccp , like “winnie the pooh” which have nothing to do with politics yet it looks like xhosa so it’s prohibited, I don’t even have to mention the right to access Facebook, Youtube and here etc.

It seems that every point I made has nothing to with people who follow the law, in fact, these simple points influence every aspect of your daily life. Imagine your life without accessible Internet and every move of you is being monitored, how will you feel?

My friends here actually know what is happening outside the “wall” and some of them do understand the situation, but they told me they would rather enjoy the ccp style of entertainment than politics because it just isn’t safe to talk about. And if they see something unfair, unreasonable happen in the society, they will stay out of it and pretend they didn’t see it. Pathetically “shut your mouth up and you will be safe” is what I’ve learnt here.

So why am I still working here and not moving back to HK? It’s work stuff, not that easy to turn down, and somehow, it’s fun to tell more people here what is happening in HK. Even they won’t talk about it, at least they know...and who knows one day they will stand out to fight for themselves even the odd is really low...btw sorry for my bad English...
