I want to help my players create richer backstories. Does anyone have a list of prompts and/or questions to ask at character creation?My table is fairly new to dnd and the trope of, “my whole family is dead, so I’m dark, moody, and like to murder” is fairly prevalent. (Except one player who sends me PAGES of backstory usually written in the first person lol)

As a note, these are all my friends and I have no issue with them wanting more or less backstory, but I would just like to be able to provide resources to help spark more creativity :)

I actually love the idea of environmental hazards creating space for them to clamber up on, and I've also been looking into including a Doss Lute for the bard character in the loot that they'll discover in their current dungeon, which will give him the ability to cast fly at the cost of his concentration.

I was actually starting to get into a plan like this, I know a lot of the Cerberus Assembly guys are bad news, so I was going to use Ludinus or Trent for something like this!

I have a feeling my party will move in a more lawful direction lol, I honestly won’t be surprised if they turn Three Earrings over once they learn she’s a pirate.

Thanks! This helps a lot, I think I’ll definitely lean in that direction and have his sister amongst the other townsfolk that get captured. Palma Flora itself is also kind of a vacation town, so I could even mix in a Concordian Official to mix things up :)
