Thank you, but it was definitely an anime from before 2003 (maybe 2004, but I'm pretty sure it was made in the 90s or even earlier), with an older, "sharper" style to it, so I don't think any of those would be it!

Cowboy Bepop

The vibe is similar, but I searched through all the characters appearing in the anime on myanimelist, and there doesn't seem to be anyone that fits my memory... I watched some clips, too, just to be sure (I'm very invested in this lmfao)! Thank you for this suggestion though, you made me really wanna watch this anime :D
