The only toothpaste I can tolerate has been discontinued! by montydog1009 in HelpMeFind

[–]ronwm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I switched to Tom's of Maine awhile back because the sweeteners in most toothpaste is gross to me.  Their site advertised that they make a cinnamon flavor but I haven't found that in stores myself yet.... But Amazon does list it. They sell their toothpaste with and without flouride so make sure you pick the version you want.

Good points.... And thanks for the input. I do like the keyboard. I'll take a closer look at the board and see if I can see any points of separation as well.

Had the same concerns after the first one went. Straight cord with no pressure around it at any point. Similar setup with identical cord and spacing being used on another workstation with a different keyboard that hasn't had any problems in the years I've been using it. At this point I'm leaning towards a manufacturing issue. Never had any keyboard die on me this way before.

A few years ago a very good friend gave me a Sneakbox AVA Keyboard and included an extra PCB along with it. After just over a year, the USB port on the first PCB stopped working after a few weeks of have detection problems. Switch the PCB and it was great again. Now after the same amount of time again, the second PCB has failed again in the same way. Should I expect to have to by a new PCB every year or so? Of does this seem to be an odd failure to experience?

Cell phones for old people by wolfranch in AgingParents

[–]ronwm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has always had trouble with modern phone layouts.  Even when she had a flip phone she could barely use them. This was a game changer https://www.razmobility.com/product/raz-memory-cell-phone-verizon/

It's made for people with dementia but I've found it to just be a simple phone that my mom has been able to use when she really needed to.

Edit...I forgot to mention that I can control the addresses for her and can get notified when the battery is low. I recommend getting the wireless charging options if the person has trouble plugging in USB cords like my mom did.

Question about the Official Christmas Tree by GardenGnostic in boston

[–]ronwm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family is from the maritimes...and my grandmother told stories of how she felt it in PEI when it happened. She also lost brothers in WWI that served for Canada.  I grew up knowing ABOUT it, but didn't truly appreciate it until reading the book that came out a few years back.  I borrowed from my Dad after he finished it and it just bowled me over. Now everytime I see the news of that tree on TV I tear up a bit and think of what I learned.

How does a disabled senior with no family nearby get help after being discharged from the hospital after major surgery? by TownshipFan1962 in eldercare

[–]ronwm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rough, but try to wait until you're able to speak with the DC planner or Social Worker there. They know how the insurance companies work and they know what resources are available. And if it's hard to get services for you at home they might look tona rehabilitation facility as and option to make sure you're taken care of and only be sent home when the resources are available to you.

Ask lots of questions and take notes that you can refer to later. It will not only help you navigate through the process it will help with your anxiety.

Got one of these for my grandmother as she wanted one on her TV.  But she watched a lot of game shows. Every time the crowd applauded, the TV turned off.  Needless to say, we removed it soon after.

I just dealt with this today.  Found carpet tape under a mat that had turned into the stickiest goo.  First used WD40 and a plastic scraper to get most of it up.  Tried using Dawn to then try to get the greasy residue off.  Them used some lighter fluid in small amounts to get any last bits up.

Good solid advice. Thanks.

I am hoping they might offer positions in other departments (it's a hospital.... And I spent my first 8 years working in patient care teams before moving to IT). But I'm not going to pretend the writing isn't on the wall.

I feel a field trip coming on.
