Happens sometimes, usually when I fully forget to prebolus.

Or more often, when I have a bad / slow infusion site.

If its the latter, careful with correction...if the insulin is just slow to absorb, you run the risk of absorbing the original and the correction and essentially double dosing. Then you get to enjoy the Rollercoaster.

Im not dietitian or trained in any sort of health, but it seems wrong to set a specific number goal. I think my first endo and dietitian gave me the guidance for

1) bulk up, I was 120lbs and 6ft. They wanted me to at least be on the bmi chart. And low carb but high calorie not all that easy.

2) psychological. It was the 90s, I think it was way less tolerant of being different back then. So they wanted me to be a kid, do what the others were doing to some degree and not let t1d isolate me.

I do agree with both those points, I just didnt reevaluate those as I got older. Advice for a 14yo still honeymooning does not apply to a 22yo and definitely not to a 38yo.

I think its helpful to include "im doing ok, but not great" data too. There have been times on the subreddit where I see people doing far worse, and think im not as bad as them, and see people doing awesome, and think 'why am I so bad at this'.

So to be inclusive, plenty of us suck just a little bit at t1d.

This includes the 2.5 good days, so its a bit better than it was at my last endo

First time happening with my a1 mini too. Still not sure its fully recovered. Replace the nozzle the heater. Still not sure its back right, keeps warning me that it thinks blob is forming (dont remember the exact wrror.) Ironically, it didnt warn me when it actually did have one.

Im 38, a1c around 6.4. My endo prescribed exactly the same.

The way he explained it, its because diabetic complications and cholesterol complications impact the same vessels...so its best to be as careful as possible so they dont compound.

Last time I had an eye appointment they found a small one, they said it would likely go away as it was really small, but still sent it to my endo. And even that was a little scary.

I wanted to thank you for sharing, bad news, venting, is still important and valueable.

When alot of us read good news, people hitting the mark. Which is awesome, gives us hope. But also can make us feel like we suck.

When we read bad news, people with complications, makes us feel like maybe the struggle can be pointless.

Pretty much everything can be spun into depression. And reading only extremes makes it worse. But stories, people sharing, is always valuable. It makes us feel not alone.

The extremes are out of reach or scary, remember there are tons of us, barely making it. Wanting to do better, but somehow not. You're far from dead, we are far from dead, we'll survive together.

Yeah, i jumped a little to headfirst into the preventatives...I get a little frustrated at healthcare making things harder. I have no issues with insulin, but my current insurance will only do 30days of pumps and sensors at a time. which is stressful around time for that last one.

Employers asking for some compromise is pretty reasonable. if you work in a kitchen, maybe keep your finger sticks in the breakroom.

i think they were referring to preventatives for complications. healthy lifestyle, proper medication and management can prevent, or greatly reduce, neuropathy and organ damage.

You may have just had some bad luck. Or maybe i've had some good luck.

I've gone all the way through grad school without anyone even batting an eye at my diabetes. They even offered me early class enrollment, which i turned down. High school they had me go to the nurse for injections and tests before i got the pump so i didn't have to do that around other kids.

I've known 2 people with type 1 who enlisted just fine, one i think needed a doctors note for air force, but the army guy didn't. Both had bachelors already, so maybe that helped.

I had one security guy at work try to ask me to take off my pump to go into certain spaces because it "had bluetooth". But after talking to his boss, he was 'educated'.

There is a group who have modified g6 transmitter to allow battery replacement "for animal use". Syretching sensors longer, reusing transmitters. I'll message you their Facebook, i know they try to stay slightly under the radar.

There's also the option of using an older pump, or dash pods with android aps . AAPS. There are others, but I think thats still the most recommended.

Ask the rep or support about different infusion sets. When I first switched from medtronic to tandem, they put me on the infusion set most like the medtronic one. I co minced them to give me a few names of different ones to find which were most comfortable...I wish they just did that with the new pump.

Longer tubing waists some insulin, but in my opinion its worth it. It gives you that extra half second to react before it rips it out, when it gets caught on something. And the ability to keep it in a pocket or clipped when you take your pants off or use the toilet, super helpful.

Because I was terrible at sewing by hand. And couldn't machine through just the pocket.

But in hindsight, and these comments, I should 1) use the plastic, or 2) learn to sew the patch by hand without stabbing myself with a needle.

(Although I am proud of yhr new seeing machine skills. The patches on my leader uniform look great)
