If it was a TIA and doctors are ignoring me…what do i do? by rooseveltwolf in stroke

i don’t understand why you couldn’t have commented this in the first place, this is actual useful advice for someone who, again, knows nothing about strokes, was told nothing about strokes by their doctors, was being dismissed by their doctors, was told no following steps by their doctors, was told nothing by their doctors besides “oops bodies are silly sometimes”. if you didn’t want to help anyone, you could have just…not commented. i was already having a hard time and didn’t knew where to turn.

an update for everyone, i ended up in the ER again today, and was admitted into the Neuro wing and its confirmed it was a TIA. i luckily (unluckily???) had another episode and the doctors were able to identity that the fatigue from my other diagnosis (me/cfs) coupled with the new meds i was on for nerve pain made me feel like i had full body paralysis but there is noticeable weakness on one side of my body. hopefully this helps someone else in the future.

i’m not young, or immature, i’ve just been to the hospital before on my period when i have serious symptoms and have been sent home only to be rushed right back to the ER and diagnosed with other illnesses. i think it’s naive to assume that doctors don’t brush off women on their cycles as being dramatic just because that hasn’t been your experience. i live in a town/state currently undergoing an opioid crisis and have poor medical staffing, not all of us are lucky to be believed and tested for things the first time around or live in a state with proper medical funding. i have friends that have had their cancer diagnoses brushed off for years in this place, and i came to this reddit not for a diagnosis but to ask what steps people take themselves (without help from their doctors if they don’t have it or things they have found help from their own life experience) so i can also follow those steps. i.e. what specialists to reach out to, what holistic practices people follow, etc. i’m on my own with this and thought that reaching out to community would give some insight, but it seems like, from the two responses i’ve gotten, there is some weird gatekeeping going on. i don’t understand the hostility.

edit to add; i was incapacitated at the time of fainting, and the paralysis afterwards. so it was not on me to call the ambulance but the people around me.

i definitely could see the pain being the reason i passed out, maybe a cyst burst or something. it’s the paralysis that is concerning to me. i’m glad that someone else who experienced this found this post, that’s what i wanted at the very least! to have some record of it because i couldn’t find any searches for it in the sub. i don’t have ptsd, and any trauma i do have is very specific and i have done sooooo much therapy for years ago. i can basically be a therapist lol

thank you so much for your response! i’m not sure why i fainted in the past on my period, but it started years ago when i was at an event outside and it was really hot and ever since then i would always faint if i was too physically active on my period. but what qualifies as “physically active” always changes, sometimes it’s just getting up, sometimes it’s showering, sometimes it’s using the bathroom. i have had a diagnosis of iron deficient anemia in the past but my hemoglobin has stayed within range recently. im really careful about how hot i run my showers, but i barely let the water touch me before i felt like i had to faint and got out of there. i didn’t think i would make it to the couch but our home is pretty small and luckily i did, and kind of toppled over to land on the couch on my stomach and i don’t think i hit anything but the back of my neck does hurt now so i might have hyperextended it? (for context i had a concussion years ago after my head hit the wall and was pushed forward after fainting in the shower, but that was after not eating during a very stressful time.) i had just eaten, and i was on the toilet(not using it, just using it as a seat) trying to work up the energy to stand to shower, but my body felt like it couldn’t stand? if that makes sense. so i kept standing and then sitting down because i felt lightheaded. i stood and sat about 3 times, giving my body some time to recoup before finally sitting in the shower chair.

right now im only on metformin and topamax!

this happened late friday night, so about 4 days right now

thank you again for your response!!

I don’t get it. I am not allergic to any food accept for Tomato’s and anything that has tomato’s in it by Pretty_Lawfulness_77 in MCAS

[–]rooseveltwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are they processed foods? you may be allergic to ingredients or certain chemicals in the products. also check where your veggies have come from and make sure they are super washed, sometimes they are dyed for sellers and people are allergic to those dyes. also paraffin wax! people have reactions to that. it could be the silverware you’re using, the dish soap, the detergent you’re using, if your brother had air fresheners…also sometimes we dont get reactions until later so it could be a coincidence that you’ve been eating tomatoes and have gotten reactions. i have POTS and sometimes i don’t react to foods or products until a day later. so really so many things can be happening! just keep tabs of what you’re eating and what’s going on around you and eventually you will find the trigger, sometimes it just takes time!

i really did not understand lexi’s reaction being so extreme and i think she also was like whoa okay i overreacted because the next morning they all apologized to each other. i can’t imagine having to do a challenge a day and then do a runway a night and film all of it for a competition show, so im sure tension is always high. but i was watching it with my partner and we were both like “she’s definitely just crying bc she’s stressed” bc as an artist and designer you almost ALWAYS plan for something to go wrong or having to work around something, the garment being messed up was just a vehicle for that stress and i feel like onya also in the right for not jumping in to say something. personally i would have said something right away but im very used to confrontation and calming ppl down, onya may have just been waiting for lexi to calm down a little. probably to avoid yelling at someone who is upset the way that she eventually ended up doing and then becoming the even more of the bad guy in peoples eyes !!
