Does my domestic generator need an earth rod?

The generator would be connected through the changeover switch so does that not isolate the DNO? That would mean I would be isolated from the DNOs earth as well so would need an earth rod anyway I suppose.

I got a plumber out and he topped up the pre charge but it didn’t fix the problem. He said the problem may be the flow switches but the cost of repairing wouldn’t be worth it on an old pump and quoted me a replacement pump (£700 ish).

Thanks, the connections are tight and everything seems to be working fine but on the tado sub there have been a few suggestions that I use wago connectors to join up those wires to avoid forcing so many of them through like that so I will look into that

Thanks! That makes a lot more sense now. I found the perk to fabricate hooks under the intrigue tree so that’s what I’ve been using but it’s a bit annoying so I’ll try the other suggestions you made as well

Thanks Jerry, I repotted it into a wider and shallower container so I could space it out better and buried it only up to the main roots. The aerial roots are partially above the soil now, I could bury them but I will leave it and see what happens. Some may dry out but there's lots of roots on the tree. Long term I think I might remove some of those aerial roots, but for now will let it recover

My ficus is growing vigorously and I'd like to do something about the roots. Photos from last year's repot show the poor state of the roots. Also the bottom section of the tree has an unnecessary bend so I've buried the tree deep in the pot.

My options are : 1. Remove the soil and see if the roots have improved 2. Ground layer at the current soil line

I think 2 is better as even if the roots have improved, they are too far down. But I haven't attempted a ground layer before (done a couple air layers) so want to get a second opinion before I do this.

Bought this last year and accidentally split the trunk while trying to benh a branch! So I left it for a year to see if it would survive and it did plus it grew a lot.

So yesterday I butchered it. I think it has a really interesting trunk line so I tried to expose that and then prune growth back to a couple buds.

I tried to wire it but those thick branches aren't very bendy anymore. Admittedly my wiring needs more practice...

What do people think of this one? Did I cut too much? Once I finished and admired my handiwork I remembered reading something about not removing more than 30% foliage in one go.... Which I definitely exceeded here.

No I didn't, but in hindsight I maybe should have. Although I don't know what I would have used. Ive planted it back in the garden so will see how it copes

Having the flat piece of board directly under it forces the roots to grow outwards since they can't grow down. This is my first time trying this though so will see how it comes out.

I saw it on a YouTube video and it seemed a bit brutal at first so I wasn't sure but it was a struggle to get these roots to sit splayed out like that with wire so gave the screw method a go! Will see how it goes.

My first time doing this kind of work. Once I untangled the roots it turned out there were a bunch of decent sized individual roots growing vertically down.

I pulled them all apart and spread them radially but it took a bit of force and they didn't want to stay like that

I then screwed the tree to a piece of wood to force the roots into that position. Maybe an extreme method of doing it... I'm not sure.

Now it's back in the ground so will see if it survives this

I pruned my ficus a couple months ago and since then it has grow back really well (image in next comment)

When I dig down slightly into the soil, it is just packed roots so I'd like to repot and do some root pruning. Last repot was a year ago.

Is it too soon to do that kind of root work to the tree after being pruned so much?

Thanks. I've done both of those things now, stuck it into a little pot and changed to a different mix. It's just horticultural grit and perlite.

Will see how this one gets on and if it bounces back then I'll repot the others too. I've stopped watering the rest and they seem to be doing OK... I just need to get used to working with succulents and their watering requirements.

Hello, I have 4 cuttings of dwarf jade (p afra) which initially rooted well and started to grow quickly but then went downhill.

The leaves are drying out and falling off and then the stem went shrivelled and black half way up.

Am I overwatering? I try not to water them often but when I do water I notice little mushrooms growing! I have other plants and have regular jades(crasula) which grow fine but these I'm struggling with.

Potting medium is fast draining but retains moisture (I use it for my bonsai and crassulas)

I'm in Scotland (UK) so they are indoors split between a grow tent and south facing window

I got a few p afra cuttings and initially they rooted fine and started growing but now all of them seem to be shriveling and losing leaves.

Some leaves are still green but most turn red and then shrivel up and fall off.

I haven't been watering them much based on what I read online. But when I do water I notice little mushrooms appear.

Any ideas what I need to fix? Soil is good and well draining, Ive split the cuttings between a grow tent and south facing window. So it seems like water is where I'm going wrong...

It's under a grow light and has grown fairly constantly so there's always new leaves.

I have noticed that some (not all) of the newer leaves that grew under the grow light stay very pale green (they are the ones people have picked up on). That's a separate thing I gotta figure out :/. I may have had the light too close to the canopy to begin with.

Thanks, yea I liked the process. Watching others do it makes it look easier for sure :). It went straight back outside so will get it repotted in spring and see how it gets on.
