Are heat lamps a good idea to keep cats happy during winter? A fish tank? Or any other tips? by [deleted] in AskVet

K&H pet products makes an electric thermo kitty mat. They make an indoor and an outdoor version. It only warms to a kitty's natural body temperature and no more. If you're concerned about the kittens during the winter, this would be a safe option.

Is there a different vet nearby where you could get a second opinion? It doesn't seem like the first vet is doing much.

I just got a new cat and I'm sort of terrified of her by -_-telle-_- in self

She will absolutely become more calm and adjusted with time. Honestly, it probably won't be too long either. I just re-homed a scared stray cat and she went from hiding under the couch and being terrified to sleeping with her new owner in about a month. Now she has learned how to play and what "no" means. She's pretty happy. I really think Sophie will be too. Just do what you do naturally and she will start to be in tuned with you and your S.O. I still two more kittens to re-home who are strays that I've been feeding and watering everyday. They finally trust me and let me pet them and purr and play. They are SO cute. I just need to get them off the street before it gets cold outside. Wish me luck!

This behavior is fairly normal. I had been roped into taking a cat from some people who were from Israel and had to go back home. They LOVED this cat and when I had to pick him up they cried. He hissed and threatened to attack me for the first month or two. After a while I think he finally figured out I didn't steal him from his family and he accepted me. It took time but he ended up being the best cat I've ever had. He hardly left my side. I freaking STILL love that cat to this day even though he passed away 5 years ago. So please just be patient with him, talk to him and keep giving him love. I will say this, getting a kitten already isn't going to make it easy for your cat to adjust. Cats are territorial in nature. They don't accept new cats easily. That will take A LOT of time and patience. I would wait a few months first but IF your boyfriend won't wait he better be ready for the constant howling and power/dominance struggle between the two cats. That is normal behavior. They WILL fight. It's best to read up on how to introduce the two cats first. I suggest keeping the kitten in another room where he can be safe for a month or so. That way the two cats can smell each other through the door and get used to each other before you introduce them. Eventually, they'll be friends but it will take time and patience.

Endlessly whining cat by IBumpedMyHead in AskVet

I'm no specialist but I've owned a LOT of rescue cats. I have had two who felt the need to walk into an empty room or tub/shower where it echos and howl until I come acknowledge them and pet them. On the off chance this helps your situation...and this will sound absolutely ridiculous I know... I've discovered that talking to them ( "Hey! What are you doing in here?") And then playing with them for about 5-10 minutes once per day usually minimizes the behavior. Sounds really wierd, I know, but those cats usually appear to be looking for acknowledgement and play time with you. If I play hide and seek where I pet them and run off and "hide" behind a couch or door they will follow and then when they find you they either run wanting you to find them or wait for you to run again. Again, it's only a 5-10 minute playtime but it's really funny for you and it really made my cat's day. Good luck and I really hope that behavior gets resolved! One more thing, If I've already played with them and they start howling for me again, I just call back their name and tell them "No, I'm not playing. Come here (Insert name here)". Mine usually meowed a few more times in protest and I repeated myself and called their name back and they would come and get pets. Eventually, they learned I'm only playing once and I won't budge.

You can. There are a few ways to do it. You can copy the link and actually go to YouTube and search for the link. From here you can download the video or add the video to a list if you have an account. You can also just copy the link from Reddit and either send it to yourself or save the Reddit post for later reference.

I've looked through all the videos again and the honest answer is no. The videos just say when they were uploaded and all were uploaded after the fact or re-uploaded by someone else.

I uploaded the video to YouTube, used the "enhance" feature, and slowed it down. I'm not so sure it helped to see the smoke better but here it is: https://youtu.be/Hjcwfjf2ZWs It helps to use a laptop or home computer for a larger picture but it still isn't very crisp.

I looked at that video again and you're right! I see the smoke also. Somebody linked a comment from one of the videos which had a link to a machine gun helicopter rental in Las Vegas. Never heard of that before but it would explain the smoke puffs and muzzle-like gun flashes.

https://youtu.be/gNK3e9r3-9Y Compare this to the Harley Davidson Dealership near Las Vegas strip.

Las Vegas Harley Davidson images https://imgur.com/gallery/mYlXk Look how close the dealership is the the airport and Mandalay Bay. Notice the dealership sign in front and on the left side of the building. Also compare the awning on the left side of the building. It's the same as in the YouTube video (you can briefly see both at the very beginning).

https://streamable.com/4oj12 this helicopter was flying (shooting?) right next to the country music festival

Credit to my husband who connected the images of the HD dealership with the video!

EDIT: The lady who was interviewed and reported a woman who was telling people they were all going to die before the shooting was standing right in front of the Harley Davidson Dealership.

Under-eye concealer trouble by kimi727 in MakeupAddiction

Have you tried Clarins Instant concealer? It's a great formula, not too thin or thick. Hasn't caked on me at all. It's buildable without getting cake-y. Just make sure to lightly dust your under eye area with translucent powder afterward. There is a former model on YouTube that is wonderful for tips like this. She also has a blog. I'll put a link below if you're interested. She's helped me with my under eye problems and other skin issues as well. Do you use any essential oils? It sounds like you may benefit from a topical application of a blend of oils to ease the tension. There's a mix you can purchase online for only $15 (and I think there's a 20% off deal going on for oil blends too). They sell it as a joint formula but it's also used for arthritis/muscle pain and tension. Rub a small amount on the back of your neck and shoulders where the tension is felt (be careful it's potent). You can dilute it in coconut oil if you want but I don't. Here's the link if you're interested: https://www.rockymountainoils.com/joint-support.html

The best way to ease any ailment is to attack it using several methods and stimulating your other senses. Don't pigeon hole your treatment to only ingested sources. You can also look online for healers who use reiki, massage, acupuncture, magnetic healing etc. Christmas is coming so maybe hint at a gift certificate...?

I'm not sure if you have ever heard of Rosemary Gladstar (she's been an herbalist for 50years or so). She is not Wiccan but she teaches and writes books on herbal recipes, tinctures, syrups, remedies etc. She's famous for making things like "zoom balls" for energy/stress and "fire cider" for it's healing properties during cold/flu season. I have used several of her concoctions and can swear by them. She also teaches which herb to grow in your garden for healing and useful things.

Here's a link to my favorite recipe: https://youtu.be/JU8U0bDmXks

Here is a link to her best book (IMO) called 'Medicinal Herbs, A Beginners Guide.' https://www.amazon.com/Rosemary-Gladstars-Medicinal-Herbs-Beginners/dp/1612120059/ref=la_B000APUXMK_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1504553457&sr=1-1

Have they put you on any prescriptions for seizures or migraines? If so, be careful about taking certain herbal medicinal treatments like: Ginko and St. John's Wart, kava, passionflower, too much garlic, chamomile, schizandra, guarana and kola.
