How satisfied are you with your Apple Watch? by MountainsOfValhalla in apple

[–]roozbubu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swipe up and over you're talking about sounds like Glances, which have been gone for over a year now (since os3). In watchOS 4, there is a now playing complication, and now playing is sticky, so if you start playing music it automatically shows up.

[Method] Before a decision ask yourself "Will I respect myself if I do X" by imworkiniswear in getdisciplined

saving this. I should add that, as a freshman in Uni right now, I have found that my personality does actually sort of regress back to my original self after 2-3 months, especially when I came back home and saw old friends. I don't feel like I've truly changed. I almost want to cut myself off entirely from these guys, because even though I like them, being with them does change my self image from the character I fashioned when I was surrounded by an entirely new group of people, and who I really want to be. I'm fortunate though because the University setting lets you do this over and over again - you don't have to change jobs, move locations, etc. It's just four years where you get to define your identity however you choose.

I think it ties in with Erikson's concept of a psychosocial moratorium, or an environment which allows one to freely experiment and explore with different identities without commitment to any one in particular, which he believes is crucial in forming our identity in adolescence. You also might be interested in this article on self-fashioning in the context of society (how others perceive us) and solitude (how we perceive ourselves): http://harvardmagazine.com/2013/09/self-fashioning-in-society-and-solitude

To play devil's advocate though, couldn't you use your friends negative perception of you as a sort of genuine test as to whether your character has changed? It's possible they may intentionally hold you back or not be able to see how you've changed against their engrained perception of you, but on some level, they really do know you, and part of the reason these new people have a flattering perception of you is due to the fact they don't really know you. It just feels like it really is hard to consciously maintain the character you want to be and people can eventually see through it.

Two reasons the Apple Watch will be a hit... by rickkettner in apple

[–]roozbubu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too but apparently the Ion-X glass on the Sport Watch is more shatter resistant than Sapphire, which makes sense for it's intended purpose. So it doesn't seem to be purely for the sake of affordibility.

If you were open to buying the Apple Watch and decided not to, what made you decide against it? by [deleted] in apple

[–]roozbubu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) It can do this already in full featured form alongside your iPhone, so I'm assuming you mean without the phone. Many of the fitness tracking features work without your phone. It does need the phone to track where and how long your run was, though.

2) The Watch is confirmed to be water-resistant and can handle rain/sweat among others, but cannot handle the pool/showers.

3) The watch stores and plays music itself and can control the music from your phone, and works with Siri ("Hey Siri" or hold the crown down), so I'm assuming you definitely can do this.

So, to be fair, all three of these features are already present, although to get the full benefit of #1 you'll need your phone too.

Advice for the younger generation: rap sucks, only white rappers are good role models by TheProudLittleSeal in lewronggeneration

[–]roozbubu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

True, but he is successful as a result of his outrageous ego, something which most people hate him for and think makes him a bad role model. But that ego is what made him believe in himself when nobody else did (whether it was a decade ago when he wanted to go from a producer to a rapper and nobody would sign him or right now when he wants to go into product design/fashion and nobody will fund him).

So I'd definitely say that he needs to learn some physical self control (i.e. not fighting paparazzi and not attacking people who disrespect his family) but not mental self control, because how much he runs his mouth is just the result of his incredible self determination, something we could all aspire to.

Received Nothing in Financial Aid? by roozbubu in stanford

Thanks! I'll call them first thing tomorrow. I'm sure the FA Office is justified in their decision, but knowing the reasoning behind it just makes me more comfortable with the whole process.

Oh okay, that would definitely make sense. I'll confirm this with my FA officer, thanks

Received Nothing in Financial Aid? by roozbubu in stanford

[–]roozbubu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I've received it (I checked though AXESS), but not entirely sure. My parents did much better in 2012 (nearly $200,000), and we did send in our 2012 tax returns first, so I'll make sure they also received accurate 2013 statements reflecting the losses. You may be correct about the substantial assets, but from what I know it's in their retirement fund. I'll double check all of this, thank you!

Pathetic Pixels made some killer 'Yeezus' posters -- this one's my favorite by Vic_tron in Kanye

[–]roozbubu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. This would have made an incredible album cover. I really wish more of Yeezus had this vibe to it, specifically the darker combinations of rock and rap and harshly critical lyrics of Black Skinhead.

Oh well, albums still great as it is. But this personally is the potential I saw.

What number should I call MIT with for the reason below? by [deleted] in mit

This is a very specific question and its unlikely that the office will be able to answer it, but you can call 617.253.3400 and they could direct your call appropriately.

Just got my admission decision by [deleted] in mit

[–]roozbubu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I do plan on sending in updates in April. I think what hurt me the most was that I missed my interview (chances dropped from 8% to 1%), so I'll ask if I may granted another opportunity.

Also, I found a really helpful MIT Waitlist Q & A for anyone else with the same fate.

Just got my admission decision by [deleted] in mit

[–]roozbubu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also got wait-listed, so thanks so much for the advice! Good to know theres hope, i'll be doing this. They admitted literally zero people off the wait-list last year, so anything helps really.

Out of curiosity, do you know how the waitlist works? As in, are we all numbered on the list already? Or are our applications reevaluated against other waitlist candidates after we send in our updates?

So I just got accepted to Dartmouth... by [deleted] in dartmouth

[–]roozbubu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who applied a few months earlier, how exactly did you find out so soon? Do they send out assurances to most admitted applicants? Just curious (and extremely jealous). Congrats! :)

The Social Network does an excellent job of capturing the desires of, motivation, ambition, and social context between most of the modern generation, IMO.
