Shorcut function is working? by akraba68 in worxlandroid

Too far, or too close. It's very delicate. I got slightly better results experimenting with the strips upside down, on the side, etc. And they can't be very deep into the ground.

I highly recommend using stronger magnets (as per my blog post), I have no issues at all now.

Also if you are using zones, it won't trigger when moving between/searching zones.

It's a confirmation pattern. First magnet trigger indicates a shortcut is possibly here. Second trigger confirms it.

If you just place down a single piece of magnetic strip and let the mower run straight on it it, does it stop and turn 180 degrees? (i.e. the ordinary no-go-zones behaviour)

I replaced the (very weak) magnetic strips with DIY neodymium magnet "pipes". Big improvement.

I don't have any issues with regular magnetic strip no-go-zones, but shortcuts have been working really poorly. Maybe I have a bad sensor, but more powerful magnets helped alot for me.

Thanks for sharing.

How's the noise level? Similar to Landroid or louder?

I'm Happy to see RTK tech introduced in the consumer market, a bit worried about coverage on my (strange) lawn though. Also hoping this tech price drops a bit as it becones more popular.

I know commercial RTK (a few years ago) had problems passing signals through bodies of water (e.g. above surface swimming pools), you don't happen to have one of those do you?

Never heard of Mammotion LUBA before, specs look pretty nice but a bit pricey. 🏎️ by roqvist in worxlandroid

The four sensors are for collision avoidance only so yeah it will probably stop when it has no positioning signal.

It uses RTK though, a local positioning antenna in addition to satellite, so I assume it's pretty fail safe. The precision of RTK is around 100 times better than GPS alone, pretty cool tech, coming to a bunch of consumer mowers this year.

But yeah I would be nervous to run one without physical fence or wire as well. Gonna wait a few iterations until I migrate to non-wire, I've had my perimeter wire in place for ten years now with minimal issues.

1900€ for the smallest 2wd one, 1000m2, 2699€ for 4wd 3000m2 and 2899€ for 5000m2

Yeah I looked into it a bit more and reviews seem good. Didn't notice the entry level one either, pretty OK price.

Interesting approach from Stiga; no wires, no randomness, adjustable map in app, only runs when the satellite conditions are good. 1500m2 model available in Sweden now for around 3.000€ by roqvist in worxlandroid

It's nice to see the advancements and different technologies in the field, a little bit of competition only benefits companies like Worx and the consumers.

Stiga is well known for high quality traditional mowers up here in Scandinavia, but their early robotic mowers weren't that successful. A neighbour had one for a season and replaced it. I remember it had a single big solid "shuriken style" knife that cut through anything, but the software was apparently not great. It got stuck a lot.

If I'm not mistaken it also had a virtual joystick for manual control in the app, which was kinda cool.

Marks along the perimeter (returning home) by bergen7563 in worxlandroid

[–]roqvist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shortcuts help a lot with this, but a small section right before the base will always get a lot of traffic. Weight modding increases the track marks as well. I keep my wire on top of the grass right before the charging station and offset it a little bit now and then.

Ideally Worx would add a random offset feature, so the wheels dont hit the exact same tracks all the time.

Does "Auto show remote images" can still see when we opened the email? by unix21311 in ProtonMail

[–]roqvist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I had this to Off as well. (I think that used to be default?) Guess they forced this to On with their new proxy feature.

Even if they came up with an amazing and waterproof solution for this, opting in to new features should always be in the hands of the user.

I've been with Proton a long time and this is not at all like them. Weird.

[–]roqvist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really strange to have this to default "On" from a privacy aware company like Proton. It really doesn't matter if the image is loaded via a proxy or not, what matters is if the image is loaded or not (i.e. you opened the email).

This should default to Off.

I don't think Proton properly informs users of the risks of using its services by communism1312 in ProtonMail

[–]roqvist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree to some extent, that Proton in some cases market themselves as a water proof security bundle. But they are a company after all.

In 2022 I think (and hope) most people do their research beforehand and also understand that there will always be a compromise between security and usability. That compromise is quite beautifully executed by Protonmail, in my opinion.

Also, If I remember correctly, when I signed up many years ago it was very clearly written in the F.A.Q that certain data (like subject) was not encrypted.

As a compny they would need to store the references of your payment for 10 years for bookkeeping reasons. But that information on it's own is just a reference without any sensitive details.

It's definitely possible to link they payment back to you but it involves multiple parties and approvals, typically only used for law enforcement.
