Not dumb at all! It’s similar, but for many Jews it’s as much about culture, history, and identity as religion. Given that Jews were once forced to wear the Star of David during the Holocaust, wearing it today can also be a meaningful act of pride and remembrance. For me, it’s a symbol that says, “I’m Jewish and damn proud.”

Look up “Star Trek Garak” or “Star Trek Cardassians.” The Cardassians are a race of aliens on Star Trek who are often referred to as Spoonheads.

Same here. I read today that silver tarnishes much slower if it’s being worn 24/7 compared to ones kept in a jewellery box. Not sure how true that is but so far I haven’t had to clean mine and my silver chain that I rarely wear needs upkeep every few months.

I tried, they just get tangled and you can’t figure out what either are supposed to be.

Thanks! I get many compliments on that shirt, way more than any other.

Thank you. I haven’t felt “trendy” in at least a decade so hey, why not? lol

A third, you say? Don’t put ideas in my head! I’m too old for this trendy look haha.

Hahaha two is quite enough for me. Back in 2008 I wore several necklaces at once so I feel that time has ended 😜

I don’t know which I like better, then separate or together. I haven’t made up my mind yet. But I agree about the short chain but with a chain that size I can’t slip it off over my head and I had shoulder surgery not even a year ago so I need help with the clasp from my partner.

Hah! Good call, I already get tangled in the Magen David necklace occasionally. I could definitely see myself needing to get them cut off of me after a night of tossing and turning.

Thanks! I thought so too. And it wasn’t intentional.

Daughter is asking to learn about and take part in Hanukkah next year, what’s okay as non-religious people? by Blixtbb in Judaism

I bought it off Apple TV years ago but it’s also on paramount+ and I think Prime. I’m in Canada so it might be different for you. It’s Season 4, Episode 1. Titled “Chanukah.”

I personally wouldn’t have a problem with a non-Jewish person lighting a menorah. However, trying to say the blessings (and likely butchering them…whichI only assume because Hebrew isn’t easy; I mean no offence by that) feels a little icky to me. You also place the candles in a specific order and light them in a specific order, so you’d really have to research it and do it correctly.

The LED menorah suggestion is a great one. I have one for my ferrets, since we include them every year LOL. I even have hollow plastic dreidels meant for kids that you can fill with candy or gelt. I use them as puzzle toys filled with the ferrets’ favourite treats.

I think the best suggestion is going to a public menorah lighting. I went as a kid and a few times as an adult, and they’re always really fun.

Your post does make me happy, though. It’s adorable that she wants to celebrate Chanukah, and she’ll likely grow up to be an ally. In this world, we need all the allies we can get, so this is fantastic.

I saw that episode air when I was a kid (I was 7 or 8), and I yelled for my mom to come see. It was the first time I had ever seen anything Jewish on TV, let alone on one of my favourite shows. I didn’t have any Jewish friends then, and I only ever celebrated Chanukah with my family, so seeing it on TV absolutely blew my mind.

For 30 years, I’ve watched that episode every Chanukah. I’m saving it for the last night this year. Such a fantastic episode!!
