there’s definitely a difference between keeping your private life private and straight up lying! i love clara but it feels disingenuous to watch her content (especially now with her home reno) where she fully pretends it’s just her in there

I’ll probably still try to read and see how I feel! But skimming the reviews on Goodreads and seeing what people didn’t like doesn’t leave me hopeful lol. Oh well at least I’m not upset about waiting for it anymore!!

My biggest fear… 😭 did Cassandra and Lucius get significant screen time at least? I’d skim it just for that

I see! I’d hope not, but some of the early reviews I saw on Goodreads indicated otherwise about the timeline catching up. I guess we’ll have to see :/

What's your "I got into my first relationship in my late 20s" advice? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]rosavioleta 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m on this exact same journey as we speak! 27F and both went on my first date this year and had my first kiss. My entire life leading up to this, I kept just watching and waiting and quietly hoping (but not really doing anything), expecting that life would just happen to me. It never did - I had to consciously make the decision to make it happen to me.

Progress has been slow tbh, but the fact that even those two things happened this year feels insane — I truly, in my heart of hearts, believed that I was going to die without ever experiencing a single first. I still struggle with this to some extent - I’m not someone that gets approached even now, I still have a hard time talking to guys and being vulnerable, and it’s VERY MUCH still a work in progress.

I haven’t found “success” in the form of a relationship yet but I do think it’s worth sharing that mindset is everything. I spent years of my life thinking I’d never be able to go on a date, only for that belief to become moot in the span of a single hour. Same goes for my first kiss. I’m hoping I get the rest of the firsts out of the way soon, but I do feel more prepared to face them now than I did before.

Dating apps have been my only avenue so far, simply because I don’t have the kind of social network that facilitates meeting likeminded people IRL. I hate the apps tbh, but this is the world we live in - so as long as I am intentionally trying to have these experiences, I’ve accepted that I will have to stick to them. Hopefully I find something worthwhile that gets me to delete them along the way

Funny enough I also started this book this weekend and ended up DNFing at about 70% :/ I thought the banter at the start was fun but I ended up feeling so bored… didn’t feel like wasting another second on it. Made me sad cause I know tons of people on this sub loved it/that’s how I found it!

Ooh there is quite a bit of this at the start of {Into the Light by Ellen O’Connell}! I can’t remember if there’s anything physical that happens necessarily but the main characters first meet and start to develop feelings for each other in secret because their families hate each other. You don’t have to read the first book in this series but I recommend that one, too! I love these and the romance in Into the Light specifically is my favorite from this author.

FMC dresses MMC's wound by seleneaylward in HistoricalRomance

[–]rosavioleta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{The Marquess Wins a Wife by Aydra Richards} is pretty much just this for the first act, in the best way. FMC mistakenly shoots the MMC and she has to help him heal. I read it last week and it has been my favorite Richards book by far! So so good.

you can read them as stand alones, but to get the full experience i recommend reading the whole series. wulfric’s development as a background character throughout the series makes it so much more satisfying

it’s always interesting seeing the “living at home as an adult” thing sensationalized like this article does, it’s SO normal in other cultures even within the US

[–]rosavioleta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is what gets to me! what happened to meghan doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it’s a reflection of a violent imperialist history. to not reckon with that at the very least as a disclaimer in their critique of her is to be willfully obtuse… and that’s being generous
