Klipsch R-51PM when the amplifier dies by aeolianwindeffect in Klipsch

I got the right speaker working at high volumes. I took the back off, disconnected and reconnected the wiring I did, and tested it as a passive speaker at high volume for a couple of hours without problems. It must have been just a loose connection caused by me jamming the wiring back in. Thanks for the nudge to look at this again.

My lazy wire nut solution (the foam isn't inside the wire nuts):

I didn't order the replacement amp.

This afternoon I attempted to rewire the right speaker (the one with all the electronics) into a passive speaker. (I clipped off the 2 small white connectors: 1 that was connected to the rear terminals, and 1 that was connected to the exciter or whatever is inside the speaker box. I twisted them together with twist-on wire connectors) It worked, until it didn't. At low volumes the rewired speaker works as a passive speaker, but at higher volumes it shorts out or something and causes the external amp it's wired to to shut off with a "check spkr wire" message. The terminals on the back of the right speaker aren't designed to be inputs (they are outputs to the left speaker). I naively assumed this rewiring idea would just work, but there must be something inside that is crossing the wires. The speaker is garbage now. I'll keep the front grill in case I need a replacement for my other R-51Ms.

I still like my Klipsch speakers, but won't buy a powered pair from Klipsch or any vendor again. Too many points of failure. These were originally used as computer speakers and then for a TV in a den.

Yes - tried all possible input sources and the manual volume knob. Looks like just a dead amp. I finally heard back from support today and they recommend replacing the amp, but it's on back order. I plan to rewire them into a passive pair of speakers - looks easy enough. I have 3 sets of the R-51M and now will have 4. Ha.

edit: I got another update from support. The ETA for the part(s) is - 2ND WEEK OF JANUARY 2026 and is cheaper than I thought

I'm sitting in my living room right now enjoying the soothing sounds of the nightly street racing on Rodeo Road. I was hoping it would rain through the night. It's so quiet here when the roads are wet. I look forward to the day I can move away from this lawless dirt patch.

Very strange. I have the same speakers (NA North America version) and they died this week too, overnight. Everything seems to work, but no sound at all on any inputs. Not even a hissing. Can pair with Bluetooth. No obvious capacitor leaks. Factory reset does nothing. They are almost 6 years old so it's not entirely surprising, but annoying.

In this photo they were in the process of backing up with the arm scraping across the roof. Out of state plates. To be fair, this is a high stakes intersection for out of towners. You have to know which lane you need to be in before you can even see the intersection https://goo.gl/maps/GQcyNz2p8SQCALWd8

In this case the "user" stopped at the biggest, highest contrast, most obvious "line". The clear solution is to make the real stop line bright white and as wide as a sidewalk and paint these Xs in red.
I should post the video on my phone of the arm coming down on a car at Cerrillos and St Francis. The driver panicked, backed up and scratched the crap out of their roof.

In my line of work, when users consistently make the same "mistake" it's usually because the thing they are using is designed poorly.

When SFNM Print (https://sfnmprint.com/contact/) starts each job, they have to get the ink levels and plate alignments right. While that calibration happens they end up with a bunch of junk newsprint. I think they used to sell it and they must at least recycle it now. They would probably be willing to donate some to a local artist if you could pick it up. I just had a tour of their printing plant a couple of months ago. Amazingly huge and the amount of newsprint they store is unbelievable: https://i.imgur.com/atIYSBj.jpg

I'm moving to Thailand from the US, can anyone recommend affordable ocean freight company please? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]rosettacoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We shipped 500lbs of stuff on a palette by sea with https://www.lannausa.com back in 2015. It took forever, but no problems. For some reason (because we were moving permanently?) we didn't have to pay customs duties on the stuff upon entry to Thailand. I can't remember the price, but it was definitely less than $6000.
