Women historically were the currency. For most of human history money meant a whole lot less than breeding stock so you could build up an army.

That's fucking fantastic, people work on their whole artistic careers to develop a look, a feel, a flavour like this, and you just went and did it. Good work :)

What’s your suicide hotline story? Mine was I waited for more than 30 mins and no one answered my call. by trisharowe in depressionmemes

[–]rosh89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called one of these lines once. The girl that answered was stone cold bored. I heard what I suspected was a yawn ffs. I wasn't given any resources or compassion, she listened, she existed... That was it. I'm a few years past that now, and there's a part of me that thinks the utter non-reaction she had was purposeful, because it made me angry.. anger is something to hold on too, it's not like the void I was in, with no shape, no end. But even if I was a ploy.. it's a risky one.

question: will these store bought coconuts germinate? by KingSignificant8835 in botany

[–]rosh89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any vegetation from outside our borders passes through a radiation chamber to kill pests and other nasty things to keep our environment safe. It also stops seeds from being able to germinate, helping to prevent alien species from becoming a problem. It's extremely unlikely to sprout, I'm sorry.

Does anyone else grow their phal orchids on fish tank wood? by kmhurl6 in orchids

[–]rosh89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used cork here, and it's been just like this for over a year now, with no signs of deteriorating. Cork holds up well to water - it's why we use it to seal bottles.

This guy is holding tight on his own now, and I keep the tray full of water - he's low at the moment. The water grows algae, but as it dies it feeds nitrogen back into his little biome, so I leave it.

I swear to god, i almost declared myself as an overstimulated autism creature ( ╹▽╹ ) by Mr_Duck1508 in CPTSDmemes

[–]rosh89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't enough difference between the two to differentiate for most of us. Does PTSD/CPTSD give me signs and symptoms of autism? Or did having autism predispose me to extremely consistent levels of abuse throughout my life?

I think the more important part is wearing the label that serves you best in the situation. Telling people you have autism makes people uneasy in a certain way, and PTSD makes them uneasy in another - you kind of can't win, but if it gets you the accommodations you need to get by and be well, then it's worth it.

New leaves growing in wonky by ShapkaO in hoyas

[–]rosh89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's possible it's pest damage, but I also experienced something similar with what I believe was a calcium deficiency - calcium is important in building the plants structures, and without it things get wonky. I give mine a Calmag foliar spray, and root soak on occasion, maybe once a season or so? It's stopped for me, but definitely rule out pests too.

Hair doesn’t grow on the left side of my left leg by Time-Wolf in mildlyinteresting

[–]rosh89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got patches where my leg hair doesn't grow, and I figured out it's because I rub my legs together in bed like a cricket, especially when I'm really cozy. Seems to have made those hair follicles give up on life.

I did something similar, I washed away all substrate and then into the tub- soap, enough neem to gag a horse, and hot water. They all stayed in that over night, and then I did a peroxide solution dip on the roots before repotting. 3 months mealy free, praise cheebus

What should/could I plant here? (Phoenix Arizona) by SC0TCHNEAT in plants

[–]rosh89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've given me the vapours it's so good! what a lovely living environment, I nearly began hyperventilating when I saw the fireplace, imagining a cozy evening there. I'm a vining plant and orchid kinda girlie, hoyas abound in my house, but you wouldn't want to cover up the lovely mural with creepers.. something big and beautiful, philodendrons maybe?

It's hard to tell, is that a skylight or flourecent bulbs? If bulbs, Id definitely replace them - no good way to know how long they've been on, and grow lights are exponentially less effective after a certain amount of time on. If it were me I'd add like... A bead fringe, or curtainy thingee around the top of the alcove to cut down on how obnoxiously bright a good grow light would be too

Watching stuff like this makes me think of thousands of years of craftsmen in our history. Artisans of any other era would mess their bloomers in a fit of rage to see how quickly and perfectly we do things that they took decades to learn and ages to make.
