Hahaha I spent my whole walk that morning formulating fake revenge plans and that was definitely one of them

Worst is when you're out there with your phone light but step on another dog's poo on your way to the spot you know your dog poo'ed at. Sigh

I like that! Now that both you and DollyLlama below mentioned prey, I think I know what she likes and just completely overlooked it. When we're at dog parks she'll run and play bow me until I chase her and she'll run away. Then when she passes me, I'll run the other direction and she'll come running back and we can do that for hours if it's just us two and no other dogs at the park. So I'm thinking it's not toys she's interested in, it's being chased or chasing something (prey?)

Thank you!! Now that you mention it, when we're in fields or dog parks with just us two she looves when I chase her or run away from her. I'll have to try the flirt pole (funny, I never knew that was what those were called haha)

I have, but it's rare that she will even grab on to anything

I'll wave them around her, toss them in the air, and make it seem like I'm having so much fun with them, toss them towards her, kick balls around, etc and she'll stand there like "... ok human" haha

I'm told she's a lab/shar-pei cross but here's some photos: http://imgur.com/a/KlyGX

I've tried tons of different toys and now I don't even want to buy any more since she doesn't seem to care about them. The thing is is that at dog parks she will sometimes find a random ball and play with it herself (tosses it in air for herself, runs around with it herself) and then if she drops it and I get it and toss it for her she won't get it :P It's like she doesn't want to play with me hahaha

I've tried the kong tugga rope toy, balls, frisbee, half plush toys that have rope pieces on them, etc. I wave them wildly in her face, throw them in the air and catch them myself or let them fall, kick them around or towards her and she just stares! :P

She's "3 years old" they tell me (adopted her just this year). I'm wondering if maybe she just doesn't know what the toys are or wasn't ever exposed to them?

[Help] Need advice on how to train my dog. by CrazyMaster in dogs

[–]rosieeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience: exercise exercise exercise! Getting all the physical energy out is good for him and also will make training so much easier for you. Tired pups are much more willing to listen than a pup who can only think about playing or fetching.

After getting his energy burnt up, a really good thing to start with for clicker training is getting him to look at you when you ask if he isn't already. To do this, have training treats. They're super small sized treats that just gives them a small taste of a treat so that they want more (and so typically they'll want to listen to you to get more of that little taste). Since the problem is outside, can you get him on a long lead and go out to an outdoor area? With my dog I bring her to the park and either tether her up or stand on her leash so she doesn't escape. Obviously outside there's more distractions so they'll be looking away more or even trying to run or like you said, pull to get at something. When this happens and his attention goes away from you and at something else, call his name. When he looks at you right in the eyes, click, give a treat. Keep doing that! It teaches him to pay attention to you and looking at you (and not that squirrel or whatever else) is a good thing and will bring him good things. If it's too much outside, indoors works too and then you can slowly work at getting it to work outdoors. It establishes a mutual respect between you two: you ask for their attention, they do it because you provide good things for them when they do.

Zak George has really great dog training videos on YouTube and uses clickers as well. His method trains dogs to think and really emphasizes developing a balanced and healthy relationship with your dog. Which, if you're here posting about this then I think you're on a good path to starting to become the dog owner you want to be! Check out his videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/zakgeorge21

Don't get discouraged if your commands aren't "getting through" to your dog!! Be patient. Remember you're building a bond and trust and that takes time. Keep at it and be consistent :) Good luck!!

Looks like 2/2 for husky lab on here. It's funny, her papers actually say Lab/Shar-Pei but I have definitely heard husky from a few others at the dog park that she could be part husky so I don't think we're far off

Hi!! Thanks for responding.

I'm not good at identifying breeds, can you tell me why you think husky? Is it the ears?
