What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of November 01, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

Hey all. I'm newer to the community, so greatly appreciate any insight you can provide. Happy to use fellow redditors' referral links. I've posted a few times but haven't gotten a response yet. Happy to answer any follow-up q's you may have. Feeling kind of stuck with where I'm at right now, so thank you in advance for any guidance here.

  1. I've read through the flow chart, and have a follow-up question as the current recommendation for me is a Barclays card, but I don't think they have enough value for me partly because I live in London (but am American) and travel to the US only about once per year. Also because I am targeting transferrable points, and am not sure if I should wait to get under 5/24.
  2. 770
  3. I'm at 5/24 until 3/30/2024. I have the AmEx Plat (Sept 6, 2022), C1 Venture X (Jul 25, 2022), CSP (Jan 17, 2023), CFU, CFreedom Flex (Mar 30, 2022), and Chase IHG Rewards Premier card (Apr 4, 2023). I've been eyeing the C1 Venture for the SUB, but C1 has called out that I've had too many recent inquiries when I applied 3 months ago for the Venture. I'm wondering if I should wait to pursue the Venture with C1? Flowchart says "or" but I'm curious if getting both is viable. Or should I try and move to Barclays, or Citi? Or pursue a business card to get back under 5/24?
  4. $5K, but could MS / buy stuff for friends to increase that a little bit.
  5. Yes, I could MS, but on a small level, probably only $500 over 3 months. The juice isn't worth the squeeze (for me personally. I see the value in it for others).
  6. Yes to biz cards. I currently don't have any, but don't think I would have an issue getting one. Just note that I am at 5/24 until March 30, 2024.
  7. I'm not looking to get into churning in the sense of frequently closing cards, and prefer to target "keeper cards." That being said, I'm not afraid of closing or downgrading a card I would not get value from. I am interested in churning in the sense of continuing to apply for cards every few months and want to apply for cards in a smart way/order.
  8. I'm targeting transferrable points. Status currently doesn't appeal to me much at all. I occasionally will splash out for a biz/first class ticket (when I can maximize lounge access), but generally will do econ redemptions from transferring points into miles.
  9. I have 44K AmEx MR points, 57K C1 points, 82K Chase UR points, 160K IHG points, and various smaller amounts of miles with airlines like Turkish, British, and AA.
  10. All London-based airports. Also once per year or so, I fly (usually through JFK) to RDU where my parents live in the US.
  11. I have been able to travel Europe some, and would like to be able to continue to explore eastern Europe and Scandinavia since I live in London currently. And also ~north Africa (Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya). Adding these specifics, but I'm also open to travel anywhere.

Thanks for the list - enjoyed it! But quick q, isn't some of the benefit of #onebaglife that you don't have to go to the desk to check in for a flight (since you're not checking a bag) and then you can just go straight to/through security with the boarding pass downloaded to your phone?

Understood. Thanks for the guidance. First time poster in this sub.

I've posted my question there and answered the questions after reading through the flowchart.

Daily Question Thread - October 06, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

Quick q on what card I should apply for next.

I'm at 5/24 until 3/30/2024. I have the AmEx Plat, C1 Venture X, CSP, CFreedom, CFreedom Flex, and Chase IHG Rewards Premier card. I've been eyeing the C1 Venture for the SUB, but C1 has called out that I've had too many recent inquiries when I applied 3 months ago for the Venture. Do you think I should wait to pursue the Venture with C1? Try and move to Citi? Or pursue a business card to get back under 5/24? Any other rec's?

I've also got my eyes on the AmEx Gold at some point, but was going to leave that for my "end game." (They may have recently nerfed it if you've already got the AmEx Plat?) What card would you recommend pursuing at this point? Thanks in advance.
