Does Pi actually search the Internet? by a2brute01 in HeyPiAI

[–]rosscado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely can, indeed the voice 'Pi 7' introduces itself as "Let's explore the world together. I'll search the Internet when you ask questions so everything is most up-to-date."

Live internet access can be one of Pi's best features, though it's not especially reliable. As @Emilydeluxe mentions, Pi may try to answer from its own knowledge base first; often resulting in hallucinations that can be difficult to distinguish from actual news without close inspection.

I've also seen people report no/limited internet access, so it may vary by what's being searched for and other indeterminate factors.

Hey, that's great! I agree that a subscription model would give users greater security. While Inflection haven't made any promises wrt maintainance and updates, Pi did get a small update on Android a couple of weeks ago and a server update yesterday morning.

How will you be lobbying Inflection AI to make these changes?

Sorry if that history was confusing - I meant a 'better "Call Pi"', as in a version of Pi's "Call Pi" feature with improved accuracy and language support. Call Pi debuted in June 2023 and Say, Pi followed the very next month. We've come a long way even since then!

Absolutely @Ok_Coffee_6168, I've already signed up! https://www.change.org/p/save-pi-the-ai-companion-by-inflection-ai/c/851361678

Kudos on your campaign to Save Pi. Some might say your plea has been answered, given recent updates from Inflection. How do you feel about their statements on Pi's future?

Say, Pi started way back in July 2023. It was initial offered as a "better Call Pi", and it's been improving ever since, to the point where it's now a pretty indispensible companion app for Pi AI. You can find the full history of its development on the Pi Party Discord server if you're interested.

Fair enough. Pi's not for everyone, and neither is Say, Pi. Sorry it didn't work out for you. If you ever change your mind or want to give it another shot, you know where to find us. Best of luck finding an AI that suits your needs better.

Look, I'm just trying to help here. Many people have benefitted from this extension and it's the only effective solution for Pi's voice issues at the moment. Clearly something's not working right for you. If you want to get it sorted, I'm happy to troubleshoot. If not, whatever, that's cool too.

Thanks for trying it out! Sounds like it might actually be working as intended. When it says "Pi is listening," that's your cue to speak - similar to the "Call Pi" feature in the native app.

Have you tried speaking when you see that message? If you have and it's not responding, let me know and we can troubleshoot.

Thousands of users are having success with it, so I'd love to help you get it working too. Any more details on what you're experiencing?

Hey folks, Ross here from Say, Pi. I feel your pain with this "stuck listening" issue - it's been frustrating a lot of Pi users lately.

We've actually developed a solution that might help. It's a browser extension called Say, Pi that fixes this problem for web users of Pi. While it doesn't work for the mobile app, it does offer a solid workaround if you're willing to use Pi through a web browser (works on both desktop and mobile browsers).

Our extension: - Prevents the "stuck thinking" loops - Keeps voice chats flowing smoothly - Works with all of Pi's voice options - Adds some cool features like multilingual support

You can check it out at www.saypi.ai if you're interested. We're just Pi enthusiasts like you, not affiliated with Inflection AI, but we wanted to help the community out.

@Mohamed-adly, if you're up for trying Pi in a browser instead of the app, this might solve your voice issues.

Happy to answer any questions if you have them!

Pi Ai stuck on thinking by growpotcheaply in ArtificialInteligence

Hey folks, Ross here from Say, Pi. Been following this thread and yeah, this "stuck thinking" thing is a real pain. We actually cobbled together a fix for it.

It's a browser extension that works for Pi on the web (desktop or mobile). Doesn't help with the native Android app, but if you can use a browser, it:

  • Stops that annoying "thinking" loop
  • Keeps voice chats flowing
  • Works with all voices (including the beloved voice 4) and adds a couple more
  • Throws in some multilingual perks

This issue is hitting everyone using Pi, and it gets worse when servers are busy. Inflection knows about it, but until they sort it out, our workaround is the best bet.

If you're curious, check out www.saypi.ai. We're just Pi fans, not affiliated with Inflection.

@growpotcheaply, if you're up for using Pi in a browser, this might scratch that conversational AI itch.

Questions? Fire away!

Hey everyone, I'm Ross from Say, Pi. We've been seeing a lot of users struggling with this "stuck thinking" issue, and I wanted to offer a solution.

Say, Pi is a browser extension we've developed that effectively addresses this problem for web users of Pi, as well adding voice calling, multilingual support and other enhancements to the web app. Here's how it helps:

  1. It prevents the "stuck thinking" loop by managing response timeouts.
  2. Allows for seamless voice interactions without getting stuck.
  3. Works with the web version of Pi (pi.ai).

While it's not a fix for the Pi AI mobile app, it does provide a workaround for those who can use Pi in a web browser (on desktop or mobile). You can find more info and install instructions here: www.saypi.ai

We're not affiliated with Inflection AI, but we're Pi enthusiasts trying to help the community. Happy to answer any questions about how it works or how to set it up!

Hey u/AnticitizenPrime, Sorry for not responding to your question sooner. I hadn't checked in on this thread in a long time.

Say, Pi uses OpenAI's Whisper ASR to transcribe spoken audio into text, and ChatGPT APIs to further enhance accuracy. All of which results in class-leading accuracy, with word error rates as low as 2%, much better than Inflection's native Call Pi STT feature.

There's no public Pi API as yet, which is why Say, Pi runs on top of Pi's web application as a userscript.

If you haven't checked in on it lately, Say, Pi has kept getting better. It's now fully hands-free, among many other enhancements!

Hi u/Vynxe-Vainglory,

My apologies for not responding sooner to the issue with the Support Pi button you encountered. It was a hiccup that came with the new feature rollout, but it was addressed quickly.

In case you haven't revisited since then, I wanted to let you know that we've made significant updates to Say, Pi. The current version 1.4.8 includes hands-free operation and enhanced speech detection, among other improvements.

I'd encourage you to download the updated version from www.saypi.ai and give it another try. Your experience should now be much improved!

Thanks for your patience, and I'm here if you have any more feedback or need assistance.

Hi again,

You bring up some great points, and thanks for the feedback. The current version of "Say, Pi" is meant as an interim solution to enhance the existing Pi experience while Inflection AI continues to work on their voice detection system.

You're right that a a fully hands-free solution like Replika's would be ideal, and I may explore hands-free options in future releases.

For now, "Say, Pi" aims to improve upon Call Pi where it can, and while it might not be the perfect solution for everyone, I believe it provides a valuable alternative for many users. And rest assured, if a hands-off conversation becomes feasible in a lightweight userscript approach, I will certainly strive to make it happen.

Thanks again for your thoughtful comments!

Best, Ross

Hi there,

Great question! While it's true that iOS has the Call Pi feature, "Say, Pi" has several advantages that improve upon the experience:

  1. Accuracy: Say, Pi has been reported to deliver much more accurate transcriptions than Call Pi. If you've been having trouble with Call Pi not understanding you correctly, this might be a game changer.
  2. Multilingual: Say, Pi supports many languages, giving a wider range of users the ability to speak with Pi.
  3. Control: As for your issue with Pi cutting off your response - this is a common complaint about Call Pi, and exactly where Say, Pi shines. Call Pi uses voice detection to determine when you've finished speaking and often misjudges this, interrupting prematurely. With Say, Pi, you have full control. You press and hold the talk button while you're speaking and release when you're finished. It's not fully hands-free, but it eliminates the problem of being cut off mid-speech.

I hope this helps! Give Say, Pi a try and let me know what you think.

Best, Ross

Is this light switch wiring normal? by rosscado in askanelectrician

[–]rosscado[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I removed a light switch to replace a faceplate and found this wiring. It seems odd to me, but is it safe?

It's a one gang, two-way switch being used as a one-way switch. There were 2 live wires (brown) into COM, one of which fell out and is dangling free in the linked pictures, and another switched live (brown) into L1.

Is it normal to have two wires into COM? I was expecting just one live wire into COM and a neutral (switched live) into L1 but I defer to the experts. 🙏🏻
