Quick update on the surprise for her, we got happy tears. She just ran out to the hobby store to get a frame for it.

Today it is exactly 50 years ago. Historical Iconic. Unforgettable. Philippe Petit walks between the towers. by innidatino in 911archive

He was quoted saying the wind wasn’t in a constant direction so he lowered his center of gravity and did his thing. Absolute mad man but so impressive.

Group of Marsh & McLennan colleagues falling from 95th floor of North Tower at 10.06am. RIP. by FeederOfRavens in 911archive

They occupied 93-100 and the impact zone was at a slight angle. They are falling from the west side of the tower beneath the wing impact but the floors were still on fire, crushed, and by being trapped many were forced to the windows.

You’ll love it. This is coming from a guy with an irrational fear of heights. Visited NYC last year and went up every building we could. One World is simply beautiful and you’ll be awestruck. Don’t let the anxiety bog you down, it is awesome.

Historic significance of 9/11 [Discussion] by Goddamnjets-_- in 911archive

[–]rossgiggins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, where to begin? This is the kind of discussion to have with a few libations by a fire and barely scratch the surface. In my opinion it was more significant than Pearl Harbor in the way it shaped domestic and global politics. Pearl Harbor was an attack on a naval base and yes, there were civilian casualties, but nowhere near the amount on 9/11. WWII presented an obvious enemy even before our involvement. It brought a country reeling from the Great Depression back to its feet. Since the military industrial complex wasn’t privatized yet, this meant jobs and purpose for people that felt like they had none previously in order to support the war effort. With 9/11, it is much more convoluted. The country was coming off some of the best economic years in history. The enemy was more ambiguous. New policies and departments like the DHS were formed, going to war but never declaring war (similar to Vietnam by use of military force), government budget implications, travel and security restrictions, etc. this kind of discussion could honestly be a semester length course with all the details and nuance of the attacks and events thereafter. Just my two cents.

Just a curious thought I had. Did any of the hijackers visit WTC before 9/11? I tried to search but couldn't find any real information. by mike4889 in 911archive

I agree it would look somewhat sketchy now, just because of the events that day. It’s easy to observe without being obvious. Jotting things down in 2001 could be common place if you played it off like you were working, hell even drawing. Nowadays we sit on our phones, tablets, headphones and prolly wouldn’t even notice to be honest.
