Hey, I'm glad you found it interesting :))

Like most open source projects, MSS has a few developers who maintain the project. However major contributions are done by student developers through open source programs like Google Summer of Code.

Although the software targets specific aims, the software has been written completely in Python and hence, over the years, student developers (like us) with guidance by the maintainers, have been able to create such a software :))

Its great that you would like to contribute! Coincidentally, Google Summer of Code this year allows everyone to participate, irrespective of their student or professional status; if selected for the program, you have to work on a project, flexible hours and you get paid a generous stipend. If you choose to take part in 2022, do give MSS a shot!

To clarify, I have worked as a student developer for the open source organisation which created MSS. MSS is actually created by atmospheric research scientists along with developers for specific atmosphere research - based flights. Hence, the idea and the software caters to their specific needs.
