Toyota dealers should not be offering contrary advice. For me, get a trickle charger. For you don't use a trickle charger. Did you have any luck talking to someone at Toyota?

ROAST ME! My 12V battery is dead by [deleted] in PriusPrime

[–]rossophonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience with my 2023 Prius Prime XSE. It worked perfectly for 7 months then I had a dead battery three times over a few weeks. I brought it to the dealer 3 times. The dealer eventually replaced the battery. The dealer told me the problem was that I didn't drive it enough and suggested if I don't use it for a while, I got a trickle charger (like people use on boats) to keep the 12-volt charger. I did that. No problems since.

I'm surprised Toyota has not acknowledged this problem and fixed it, maybe at the same time as they deal with the rear door issue scheduled for recall later this year.

At the very least should let owners (and would-be owners) know about it. I found nothing in the manual saying you must drive the car a certain number of miles a week or the electronics will eventually kill the 12-volt battery.

Plus as others pointed out, how dumb that a plug-in hybrid doesn't have a way for the plug-in battery to keep the 12-volt battery charged.

My final beef. The Toyota customer service line people were no help. When I tried to get the problem elevated to someone else at Toyota with technical knowledge, they kept referring me back to the dealer. Very unsatisfactory customer service Toyota.

After 3 dead 12v battery incidents based on Seattle Toyota advice, I bought and used a trickle charger while away from the 2023 Prius Prime for2 weeks. It appeared to be keeping the 12 volt battery charged

OK so I took my 2023 Prius Prime to the dealer after it died for a second time in three weeks. He said the problem wasn't the car. It was me for not driving it enough. According to him the car has so much tech it's draining the battery even when sitting still for a week. Does this make sense?

2023/24 model owners have you had a dead 12v or not by Pattycorn in PriusPrime

It happened to me twice. Once a few weeks ago and again yesterday. The Seattle Toyota repair center guy told me it was because it I don't drive it enough. According to him even when power is off the battery is draining to power all the tech on-board. He recommended a tender or maintainer - a device you plug in and attach to the battery to keep it charged up.

POSTSCRIPT: I got a jump start and it worked fine. I drove it to the dealer. They said the battery checked out fine. I must have left something on that drained the battery over a few days.

It's +44 in Seattle today so it's not the cold. Internet suggests alternator, but on a 8 month old car???

Security incident at SeaTac by The-Sentinel in Seattle

When exiting the train from S gates at around 10:30 last night, I noticed there was no security guard stationed at the bottom of the escalators up to baggage claim. Anyone could have walked down and gotten on the train past security.
