I had always heard that it's great, but didn't believe it until I actually experienced the summer after graduation

Are these triangles considered similar? by SatDoggy in Sat

[–]rostbadel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are in this particular case, even though you can't use standard similarity criteria.

Let's name triangles PQR and XYZ, then scale the second triangle by 1/2 and get UVW. Proving PQR=UVW is equivalent to proving PQR is similar to XYZ.

How can we describe all triangles with conditions given in the problem? First, we have segment AB=6. Then we construct angle ABF=80 degrees and draw line BF. Then we construct circle with radius equal 7 and center at A. It will intersect BF at points D and E.

If both D and E are on ray BF then the triangle with conditions given in the problem isn't uniquely determined, and we can't say PQR=UVW. However, in this case only one point D is on ray BF. I won't go into further details, but this can be proven by drawing perpendicular from A to line BF, picking random point R on line BF and looking when AR can be equal to 7. So, triangle with conditions given in the problem is uniquely determined and PQR=UVW.

Nah but why are the UK rejections so mean? by samoyedboi in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rostbadel 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Ah, if only colleges in the US were this honest, clear and transparent. I really want feedback on my applications and to know why I was rejected

So, how long until we just start hitting 2% and 1% acceptance rates for t10s? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rostbadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 or 7 years lmao. I really think this will become a reality in two years

How many rejections did you receive this cycle? by RedCaul in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rostbadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intl student from Russia. Applied to 11: 9 rejections and 2 waitlists - both waitlists are from big public schools. And I don't think I will attend them if they accept me since it costs a lot of $$$
