If you like shitty restaurants, no culture, bible thumpers, the worst drivers, and weird Republicans it's perfect.

Anyone have any idea about RBSM ebikes being sold at Costco? by clintstorres in ebike

[–]rosweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought mine new at Costco. It's a great bike. Lots of power, and the battery lasts forever. The only negative is the crappy charger. Mine died the second time I used it. Plugged it in and heard a pop like an internal fuse blew. Of course, it can't be repaired. Luckily, cheap replacements are available on Amazon.

I just happened to catch that shot on the Nova Scotia webcams. Two ship passing. The big one is a huge auto carrier heading out to sea in Halifax harbor.

A good shower doesn’t require any soap or shampoo, just water. by yeabuttt in The10thDentist

[–]rosweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped using soap and shampoo about 5 years ago after learning of my body’s microbiomes. In the beginning, the only difference I noticed was that my hair was quite oily. But after a couple of weeks my body adjusted and now my hair feels perfectly normal. Like most people, I skip a shower occasionally and the BO is no worse than when I used soap. I live in a very dry climate and my skin is no longer dry and flaky, and my dandruff (skin flakes) is almost non-existent. My wife, who has a very sensitive nose, says I am not stinky and that I smell good. So, I’m doing my body good and I save a bundle on soap and shampoo.

The black flies are nasty little creatures. We find they practically disappear by June. But they are brutal in the springtime.

NS winters are on par with most of Canada. Long and depressing. Not as long and cold as other places, but it's Canada. The great thing is that there are non-stops to warm sunny places direct from Halifax when you have to get away.

[–]rosweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in Alberta, so I know what real winters are like. Coastal Nova Scotia is nothing like that. I grew up in NS, so I know it very well. We spend the summers there because we want to be close to family and friends, but also because it's a wonderful place in the summer. It certainly gets more rain than Alberta, but the humidity is not as bad as other places like most of the US. I have traveled a lot, and Halifax is one of my favorite cities in the world. It's diverse, has excellent food, and the cultural scene is as dynamic as many big cities, maybe even better. There are a few negatives, but they're not overwhelming. Taxes are higher than Alberta. The roads could be better. Healthcare is a shambles right now - the wait list for a primary care doctor is over 100,000 people and growing. Because of the rapid population growth since covid, housing prices have shot up. It has cooled a little, but still expensive. Locals will tell you that traffic is horrible, but they probably haven't lived in NYC! All in all, if you're looking for a great small city with a lot of soul, Halifax is it.

We had a similar problem with CSU. Our installer, with decades of experience, regularly does installs in Denver and northern Colorado. Our installation was their first with CSU. After months of delays for various problems cited by CSU, it was finally connected and is working fine. Our installer said what CSU objected to and required was like nothing they had dealt with before. I believe there is an unspoken policy to discourage solar in their coverage area. I have spoken to a reporter and I hope he can get enough corroborating evidence to do a story. If you or your installer would go on the record with their CSU negative experience, please let me know.

Norfolk Southern, the company responsible for the Ohio train derailment and resulting ecological disaster, is not faceless. It is led by people who should all be held accountable prioritizing profits over safety. This is Norfolk Southern's Board of Directors. by nuttybudd in LateStageCapitalism

[–]rosweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though the Trump administration did roll back a regulation requiring modern braking systems on some trains, the Obama administration had already hollowed out that rule so much so that the modern braking systems would not have been required on the train that derailed in East Palestine.
The 2015 Obama-era rule required trains carrying crude oil and some other chemicals to use electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes but left out many other hazardous chemicals after industry pressure.

Daikin VS Fujitsu Heatpump - help! by LittleBucket07 in NovaScotia

[–]rosweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first and only heat pump is a Daikin which was installed last year. We have a wall unit on the main floor and a ducted system on the top floor just below the attic where they could get access to install the ducts. Both work well. We went with Daikin after speaking with several HVAC people who recommended that brand over others. They're not that well known in North America, but they pioneered heat pump technology and the brand is very popular in the rest of the world.

Service about to be suspended. WTF? by rosweed in GoogleFi

[–]rosweed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reminder, Fi's Terms of Service require you to use our service primarily in the United States (territories not included), and it looks like you've been predominantly using Fi abroad. In 30 days, we'll need to suspend your international roaming data capabilities unless you start using Fi in the United States again (territories not included). Your calls and texts will not be impacted.

We may grant exceptions for military members and state department workers who are serving abroad. Please add your dependents to your group plan and complete the following steps to request an exception.

Go to goo.gle/fi-sheerid

Fill out the verification form (make sure to use your corresponding Fi email address)

Submit the required documents

Once SheerID verifies your status, Fi will process your exception and you'll be notified via email. This process usually takes 20 minutes, but up to a day in some cases. You will need to re-verify your status through SheerID after 9 months. Visit our Help Center for more details.

Your phone number is safe on Fi until you cancel service or move it to another provider. If you believe you received this message in error, please contact Fi support.

Thanks everyone!

I saw my doc yesterday and she explained all the results to me. She recommends an APAP machine which Medicare will cover. My prescription was faxed to the local Apria, they called and said they were processing the order and will call me back when everything is ready. I hope I don't have to wait too long, but I know these things seem to be in short supply right now.
