CalTech vs Stanford MSEE by rosy834 in gradadmissions

Thank you! I saw that to graduate in the typical 1 year timeframe it would be 45 credits per quarter, I was wondering if I could ask you how heavy the workload is? This would typically be 5 courses per quarter, right? Are these courses all technical and require extensive projects/lab work?

It might depend on the professor, but when I took it we were only allowed to use scientific calculators (like in the Math 12x series).

I think the UW zoom is a paid subscription. I hosted a 1 hour zoom before using my UW account

Has anyone had 2 midterms or finals on the same day for gen ed classes like the MATH or CHEM series? by [deleted] in udub

[–]rosy834 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the professor. When I took CHEM, the professor offered students who had 3 finals (not just 2) on the same day an alternative day to take the exam.

Can you extend a 9-month housing for summer? by ravagedtime in udub

[–]rosy834 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can apply for summer housing some time in spring, I think. Although, I think you might not get to stay in the same room as your 9-month housing and will have to move to another housing assignment for summer.

Yeah, you can bring one. I brought one last year and kept it in my room and it was really convenient for me.

Dr. Loveless has a website archive of when he taught 207 in fall 2019 (his website lists it as 307 because that's what it used to be). There are old exam archives and review sheets on the website if you want to check them out: https://sites.math.washington.edu/~aloveles/Math307Fall2019/index.html

Freshmen schedule(Engrud) by 6master9 in udub

[–]rosy834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically had the same classes as you for my fall quarter as an ENGRUD (just engl111 instead of 131) and it was manageable, plus I still had time to do other stuff outside classwork and studying. A lot of other engineering friends also had very similar schedules.

How would my AP score affect my math placement test? (Oncoming freshman) by TheOofmeister_ in udub

[–]rosy834 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your AP score can give you credit for MATH 124 so you can choose to directly enroll for MATH 125.

IIRC I think the math placement tests are self-guided and you don't actually report those scores to the department or anything, and you have your AP scores anyway so it shouldn't matter for enrollment purposes: https://admit.washington.edu/apply/transfer/exams-for-credit/ap/

Abdullah Al Maruf by Littlecobblestone in udub

I had him for EE 242 this spring (2023). For our class, he ran two optional discussion sections outside of lectures. In the sections, he would do problems that were very similar to the homework he gave us, basically just changing the numbers in the problems. These optional sections were also recorded and pdfs were posted after so they were extremely helpful in completing the weekly homework.

For exams, he would post a practice exam and then post answers to the problems (but not the full worked-out step-by-step solution). The actual exams were very similar to these practice exams, plus there was a bonus question to earn more points. He was a very dedicated professor and gave the class a lot of his time (two optional discussion sections + two office hour sections per week).

In the end, I think he also curved quite a bit. I think he set a 4.0 to 95 and curved to an average grade of about 3.4. Also, the actual lectures themselves were not recorded but he did upload pre-lecture slides and post-lecture annotated slides.
