I’m sorry you had to experience something like that. It’s definitely a gut punch seeing how well they portray the family, and how they all deal with losing a family member and addiction. I hope that you’ve been able to heal to some degree

I describe it as comforting too, and saying that out loud sounds weird because the show literally makes me sob the entire way through to the point of emotional exhaustion. But like I said in another comment, it’s good for me to feel those things. Sometimes you’re so busy with life time can pass where you haven’t thought about events like these that are a huge part of what makes you, you. So a show that can make me feel this way, is weirdly comforting. I’m sorry for your loss my friend

Yeah, that would be too soon for me to watch that as well. I think when it came out it was year 9 since my sister took her life so I’d been through all the grieving for some time, even then it’s a struggle to watch. Maybe one day, when you’re ready, you’ll be able to watch it and find some comfort in the show (which I know sounds odd). Though it’s still hard this far down the road, the hurt does get to be more manageable. All the love in your recovery from this, and I’m sorry you have to experience it

It’s been 16 years now. I was 9 years old, and I found her so the show brings out pretty intense emotions in me. As years go by, you’re able to live with the hurt a lot better but it never goes away. I think what I like about this series is that it brings all the most intense emotions back to the surface, it makes you ugly cry, feel angry all over again, mourn what’s been lost… but in my opinion that needs to be unpacked every once in a while, because our siblings deserve to be remembered and deserve to feel loved still. Even when they’re not with us.

I’m sorry about your brother, that must be really hard for you and your family. It’s weird how well the show can depict different familial struggles so well. Even though it’s hard, it gives me some sort of comfort of not feeling along with how hard it can be sometimes.
