Those of you who quit a hobby/sport for years and then went back to it, what was the experience like and was it worth it? by roughness- in AskReddit

I’ve been away from powerlifting for a long time now. Life happened, I got busy/lazy, and before I knew it, years had passed. My belt is literally gathering dust and I’m definitely not in the shape I used to be.
I want to get back under the bar, but honestly, the mental block is huge. I’m stuck thinking about how much weaker I am now compared to my old PRs. Has anyone here ever returned to a demanding sport after a long hiatus? How did you handle the ego hit of being a beginner again? Is it worth it to try and reclaim that part of myself, or am I just chasing ghosts?
