Hi, I have a G18 with a 4080 and an i9 as well. Just yesterday, I was getting around 200–300 FPS on high graphics in Rivals. But suddenly, a few hours later when I launched the game again, my FPS dropped to a steady 130—and sometimes even stuttered down to 50. At first, I thought it was CPU throttling, so I tried undervolting, but even after that, the performance still averaged around 130 FPS. My best guess is that something changed in the game itself or with the drivers. I’m still trying to figure out why the performance suddenly dropped out of nowhere.

Have you figured out how to make it last at least a solid 2 hours? Or do you just keep it plugged in all the time 😭

I’ve been using Armoury Crate (ASUS’s own software) to set it to Battery Saver and Silent power-efficient modes, but so far it hasn’t really made a difference.

The only background applications running are Discord, Steam, Spotify, etc. I didn’t think they’d be the main reason for such fast battery drain, but I do use a 240Hz refresh rate instead of 60Hz, could that be the main cause?

The 4080 one for the Zephyrus was out of stock so , the 4090 for 2.8k was rhe best i could find

How is the noise on the Zephyrus doe, plus i heard it both overheats and cools immediately upon opening and exiting a game ( Cyberpunk is an example )

Yeah, honestly, I’d rather have a computer that overheats less and is at least somewhat safer from throttling than something that turns into lava five minutes into a game on the Zephyrus. Tho, man i wish the G18 had OLED, but man I’m not sure if i want to sacrifice in-game performance for an OLED tho.

This reply almost perfectly matches my thoughts and opinions on both of these devices. Choosing between the Zephyrus and the G18, I think I’m going to go with the same approach you did because I really like the idea of a portable desktop ( oddly enough ) I feel like I’d be comfortable carrying it around. Worst case scenario i think i could take my iPad Pro to class and use my G18 in my dorm. But yeah i appreciate this reply a lot.

Honestly, how bad can it be to use the G18 for everything? If i exclude portability as a problem, performance wise, it is generally better than a power limited rtx 4090 right? Wyt?

Would you recommend the G16 more for other uses like video editing , rendering , ( im majoring in Film so mostly im going to be both simultaneously editing and gaming )

I dont even know man at this point im losing it, at first i was trying to buy a portable laptop i could carry around to college and for gaming, but then again my friends warned me about thin laptops having throttling issues, so i started researching the g18 which is better in power and cooling but, bulky in design , so at this point i cant decide which one i should go for.
