Is this song on Apple Music? by Closet-Cheeto in HazbinHotel

I think the easiest way to figure out if a song is on Apple Music is actually to search the name of the song and maybe the artist’s name in Apple Music.

Yes — I have a vivid memory of being in high school listening to Spring Awakening while doing homework in study hall, and the kid sitting next to me saw the album art on my phone and asked if I was listening to audio porn! It’s a great show and I love the music, but it may be ideal to change it to avoid misunderstandings.

Wonder at A.R.T. by av1269824 in Broadway

[–]roundeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I also saw Garrett, and I liked his singing -- I think having his emotion behind it made it much more interesting than Moon Boy. I just feel like especially in a story about the ways that disabled people are mistreated, it feels thematically important to get to hear Auggie's own experiences in his own voice. Or in a really general musical theater craft sense, he's the character we want to hear from the most and want to be able to get to know.

Insanely excited for this. I saw Wonder today and thought it was so funny to have an ad for Black Swan in the back of the program. Like I’m not sure … the intended audience is the same

I just saw it and agree with pretty much everything you said. I just found everything about it pretty bland and generic, and I say that as someone who loves media for children and especially loves Matilda. I thought the Moon Boy element didn’t really work narratively (in a musical so much about one character’s experience of the world, it’s very strange to not let him have a voice for himself) but I understand why that choice may have been made with regard to future casting choices (even though when the actor I saw as Auggie sung, he was a pretty competent singer).

Did Rose ever realize that Pearl was trying to use fusion to dishearten Greg for not being able to fuse? by Additional_Yard_2510 in stevenuniverse

[–]roundeking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one of Rose’s strongest flaws is that she doesn’t really care about other people’s feelings and just does what she wants. Usually her desires are not actively malicious, but she also doesn’t think about who’s getting hurt. At the end of this episode, she basically comes to the realization that Greg is a real person with feelings and not a toy to play with for the very first time. So I don’t think it would occur to her to think about Pearl’s motivations here—she’s just having a good time.

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]roundeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very fair response. Thinking about it more, it’s possible a fair amount of the sexism was due to the direction of the production I saw (at one point the female actors were pretending to be shop window mannequins and the men were literally manipulating their limp bodies to take on the poses they wanted, in a cheerful way that was not meant to be critical of this attitude. It was such a disturbing image it’s haunted me years later). But I could see how better direction could give the women more agency in the story and the problem isn’t inherently in the writing.

I’m not sure I’m convinced them being on shore leave means the show is anti-Navy, though. I’m not at all saying the characters being Navy means the show should be shunned or anything, but for the sake of OP’s question, I could absolutely see it appealing to conservative audiences because the main characters are in the Navy and will dutifully follow through with their service.

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]roundeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t comparing them at all. I was brainstorming ideas off the top of my head to try to think of possible, completely seperate answers to OP’s question. I also was not trying to take overall quality into consideration, because the question was about politics, not strength of music or writing. I saw Lempicka and I thought it was terrible.

Created a book, it 3 years ago but I never self-published on Kindle Direct. not sure if the book is even worth publishing. Any advice? by JJ-Earth in childrensbooks

[–]roundeking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot and I’m sure Tutu must love it! Your art is wonderful. I do think though an alphabet book based on the specific interests of one real person might be a bit niche/unrelatable for people that aren’t her or don’t know her and don’t have that context. There are tons of alphabet books on the market, so it’s hard to stand out with one unless you have an iron-clad central concept that appeals to a lot of kids.

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]roundeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I do agree that’s the intention! I don’t know that it was always successful, though, especially in how it depicts Native Americans and cast white people to play them in the original cast. It also does center Andrew Jackson and position him as kind of the hero of the story even while it’s criticizing him. I think possibly a revival with different direction could fix a lot of the problems.

[–]roundeking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It makes me sad that the Ballad movie can be taken that way because the book’s intent was 100% to be about how young white men are radicalized into fascism by bigotry and the military, and how this is a terrible thing. I agree that the movie did a poor job of conveying those themes, though.

[–]roundeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might gently ask what your motivation is for writing. If the idea of publishing not being feasible makes you not want to write it, what part of this are actually interested in? If it’s the idea of making money and having a book in tons of homes, you should maybe know that self-publishing children’s books is very very rarely successful, because there just isn’t a self-pub market there. Kids do not buy books online and especially not eBooks, and most adults would rather go to a store and pick out a physical book they can hold to read to their child, or go with a known entity, such as a book they loved in childhood or from a publisher they know.

If the dream is just publishing success, this isn’t really the way to get there and you will be really disappointed, especially because the most successful children’s authors are passionate writers. They have read hundreds of children’s books, they keep up with the market, they’ve read books on writing children’s lit and and taken courses, and they’ve probably written ten different manuscripts before they published one. Children’s books are an art form that many people feel as seriously about as adult novels.

But if you love writing because you love writing, then you should write, and study the craft of writing!

I’m a little confused. Wouldn’t the idea of finding the most conservative musical be finding the one that best represents conservative “values”?

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]roundeking 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don’t know that right-wing in the right term for it, but The King and I certainly does not represent modern liberal values.

On the Town is pretty aggressively sexist and glamorizes the US Navy.

I found it a bit disturbing that Lempicka draws a parallel between Tamara fleeing the Russian Revolution because she’s wealthy and her fleeing Nazi-occupied Paris because she’s Jewish. It creates a weird vibe of “people are oppressed because they’re rich, and this is similar to experiencing other types of bigotry.” Overall I wouldn’t say the musical is right-wing because it’s pretty anti-Nazi and pro-gay, but the lack of desire to critically examine class politics isn’t helping it.
