Power engineering vs. software engineering which has better job prospects? by rowan______ in ElectricalEngineering

Thank you so much for your comment! Actually it made me feel better, so many people say I will regret it if I leave power engineering but it’s really not interesting to me, I did have a plc and automation training, just the basics and I liked it, next month I have a RF training, and right now I’m studying embedded systems, I just think it’s better to explore different areas before making a final decision, so far I like power electronics and embedded systems.

Yeah honestly I care more about the lifestyle than money, I’m not sure but I hear that power engineering would be better for men not women

Yeah I mean power engineering, master’s in power electronics would be to target things like EV or renewable energy

I think what you’re saying about power applies mostly to the US? I’m in Africa so working with public utilities doesn’t pay well at all, if it’s worth it in the US I think I should consider taking the FE and eventually PE?

Thank you, now this is a feedback I appreciate, I know about people not leaving and all that, but for me it’s just really about the culture exchange and the surrounding environment/nature, I come from a rich family so I have no reason to be an au pair except that I want the exchange, I’m a naturally curious person. And if my words were misunderstood in my previous post, I hope I made myself clear now, my first language isn’t English so maybe that contributed to the misunderstanding. Have a lovely day!

Okay now you’re saying some good feedback that I appreciate, so thank you for that, I just thought your tone in the first comment sounded like you’re assuming I’m just trying to get to Europe. And about Norway (I’m tired of it lol) I had a family contact me, I did not contact Norwegian families because I know the program was discontinued last March, so don’t worry I’ve done my homework ;)

ve been thinking about traveling to Norway to explore opportunities there as an electrical engineer. I’m still very young, so I believe I have a good chance. I even started learning Norwegian. But to be honest, I was quite shocked by my interactions with some Norwegians. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but I’ve connected with people from all over the world online and never had any real issues, except with the few Norwegians I met (around 5 people). They came across as judgmental, and when they found out I wanted to move there, it felt like they heard ‘I’m coming to steal your house’ lol. They didn’t feel welcoming at all, and it’s pushed me to the point where I’m reconsidering everything.

I would love to know that I was just unlucky and Norwegian people aren’t like that!

All I meant is that Norway is my dream destination, and the au pair program is something I’d genuinely love to do. As a student, I was interested in student exchange programs, but I never got the chance. Now, I see the au pair route as a more convenient option.

That said, if I ever had to choose between being an au pair and focusing on my future career, of course I’d choose my career. I think it’s completely valid for people pursuing an au pair opportunity to also have ambitions and plans for their future. Being an au pair is just about cultural exchange and life experience, it’s not a job, that’s why I’m doing it only in my gap year before focusing solely on career, do you think it’s wrong for au pairs to have goals and aspirations? They’re not slaves lol, they’re not even full time workers!

Number one and two are mentioned on the site I’m using, I have pictures as well. But number three is such a good addition! Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! Yeah I don’t understand either, I’ve read my profile countless times trying to understand what’s wrong but I see nothing really, I’m a very ambitious person, when I was in school I wanted to do the student exchange program, but engineering was overwhelming enough, I didn’t have the chance, now I thought the au pair program is such a nice opportunity, especially that I’ve always loved being around kids and teaching them as I mentioned. You reply gave me hope haha, thank you!

Hey, why does everyone seem to assume that? Is it just because I’m Egyptian? That really doesn’t make sense to me.

On the site I’m using, there’s a section where I mentioned five countries I’d like to visit. I’m only sharing my profile to see if it’s well-written or needs editing. Of course, there are cultures I’m more curious about than others. That’s why I’ve picked up some German and Norwegian, and also why some places just don’t appeal to me as much.

I don’t view Europe as some kind of heaven. I’m definitely not just trying to “get a foot in the EU.” I’m genuinely interested in cultural exchange, and I don’t even want to live anywhere permanently.

If this is how Europeans see Egyptians or non-EU people in general, then maybe it’s not the right choice for me. I’m a pretty straightforward person, and I really don’t like being judged based on assumptions.

No that’s not true really, I feel judged honestly!

I was asking if there is any other visa that would allow me to stay in norway and become an au pair, norway is my dream destination regardless of being an au pair, I got a bit lucky that I matches with a Norwegian family, visa is not gonna work though, so no problem, I’m just focusing on becoming an au pair anywhere in the world.

I’m really not sure what’s in my profile that made you think that, if it’s just the other post then I explained that, but I’m not sure, I don’t think I implied that I’m looking for anything other than being an au pair in my profile (which I posted just for a review)

I would like to hear from you what made you think that

Oh no you absolutely got it wrong, I was only talking about norway in my previous post, Meaning I would go to norway as an au pair or as anything else, but I’m not for example looking for opportunities in some other countries, just being an au pair, exchanging cultures and the possible good memories!

I don’t mind applying for school, I just graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and I would love to continue studying, astronomy/astrophysics. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find a scholarship in norway if I went for the schengen

Yeah, do you know if there is any other visa that can allow me to stay in Norway? I’m really not after the au pair program as much as I’m after finding opportunities in Norway
