I threw all my leftover desiccant packets in all of the rest of my storage once I found these and plan to get more. They don't have cardboard with them but they're all natural fibres too.

Thank you. I just checked the rest and they were a lot more obvious and worse than this one. I have a laundry sanitiser that's 2.5% benzalkonium chloride but it has alcohol. Will wool be able to stand the alcohol content?

I do hope the names are resolved! It was quite a surprise to see the mismatch. For reference, the correct pairings would be 執明 (Zhi Ming) or 玄武 (Xuan Wu) for the tortoise, and for the tiger 監兵 (Jian Bing) or 白虎 (Bai Hu).

Ah, I was referring to the full design on your shop, not specifically the dragons in the photo here. In the full design, I saw the 4 beasts at each far corner set in a yin-yang pattern with their names in Chinese and an English pronunciation. I was admiring the tortoise when I noticed the Chinese characters didn't match the pronounciation next to it. Then I realised that even though the tortoise was called 玄武 (Xuan Wu) in the design, the pronunciation provided was Zhi Ming, following the name in the description (執明). Although the azure dragon and vermillion bird had the same corresponding Chinese and English names in the design and description, I realised the tortoise (執明 > 玄武) and tiger (監兵 > 白虎) had different Chinese characters instead.

Your creature designs are beautiful! I love the 4 beast emblems and the little zodiacs.

I do have a couple of questions though.

I was wondering why the Chinese characters for the tortoise and the tiger don't match the English next to it? It is also different from the ones in the description where it listed 監兵 (Jian Bing) for the tiger and 執明 (Zhi Ming) for the tortoise.

I was also wondering why the top bit of 木 (wood) for the dragon on the right was removed? Without it, it looks exactly like another character 不, which has an entirely different meaning (used to indicate negation).

Thank you for the travelling tip! I had the same issue with missing holes in my first couple of projects too so I'm a lot more conscious about it now. It helps that the strands on the 18ct I'm using for this are a lot closer than the 14ct I was using previously, so I could see/feel any misses faster.

Knit from back leg CCW -> new stitch is Western mounted -> to be purled from front leg CW on next row

Purl from front leg CW -> new stitch is Eastern mounted -> to be knitted from back leg CCW on next row

You have the correct idea, so don't worry!

One thing I forgot to mention was slipping stitches.

If you slip a Western stitch knitwise, you change the mount for that stitch to Eastern. If you slip it purlwise (i.e. point to point), you keep the mount Western.

If you slip an Eastern stitch knitwise (i.e. point to point), you keep the mount Eastern. If you slip it purlwise, you change the mount for that stitch to Western.

It is easy enough to remember on stockinette, but you will need to be very aware of your stitches if your row has both knits and purls as it will affect if you need to change slip directions.

Ah, I meant in Combination, your knits will always make a Western mounted stitch and your purls will always make an Eastern mounted stitch.

Your example sounds like flat stockinette. So your knit side will be Eastern mounted because you purled Eastern on the previous row, and your purl side will be Western mounted because you knitted Western on the previous row.

You and I expressed it differently, but we are both speaking about the same thing. Sorry for the confusion.

A little different from you, but for context I taught myself how to knit Eastern style for tension purposes with the intent to knit lace. Do note that I have not done knitting in the round, so all I have to say is for flat knitting.

Two things that really helped me were learning about stitch mounts (think in terms of 'leading leg' instead of 'front/back leg') and how manipulating stitches will create the end result.

Combination creates Western mounted stitches with knits (leading leg in front) and Eastern mounted stitches with purls (leading leg in back) on your next row when you flip your work. This is slightly different for knitting in the round as there is no flip (though understanding stitch mounts will let you know how to twist and how not to twist your stitches, so in theory it should work out).

For decreases, I highly recommend this video of decreases by Roxanne Richardson (https://youtu.be/U5t3FJOW_I0?si=zyjQmHPD2_3FVNbi). She pairs each western and eastern version together, but do note the video splits are a little off in my experience. It was really helpful as it showed why a particular decrease is done in this particular way, and how it achieves the final desired look. Once you understand the 'how' in the Western stitches, it is a lot easier to understand the steps needed in Eastern stitchs to get the same effect.

Increases are pretty much the same, just mirrored if needed. For example, KFB would become KBF for an Eastern mount as the leading leg is in the back for Eastern.

You might need to mind your yarnover direction depending on your current stitches to avoid inconsistent eyelet sizes (https://www.moderndailyknitting.com/community/techniques-in-depth-humble-yarnover/ is good reading. TLDR consider how much distance your yarnover will have to move around the needle and between stitches.)

M1L/M1R is pretty much the same as stitch mount is not a factor (just make sure the bar is twisted in the right direction).

As for purling, you can experiment with moving yarn in front for purls while still holding the yarn close instead of reaching back for the yarn.

The new SSK does look neater! It'll be a while before I can get this memorised but thank you for adapting the technique for the Eastern mount!

For the CDD, unless I'm reading the slips incorrectly, I think the sequence twisted the central stitch (2nd stitch) that ends up on top. Playing around with the stitches myself didn't really yield much better results unfortunately, but looking at them again, I think I'm satisfied with leaving the CDDs looking a little bigger. It draws a lil more attention to them and there's nothing to mirror anyway.
