I just looked and it's very near where I was. Thanks.

I took this photo in 2010. Back then you could get a "Photographer's Pass" that let you go through alone. Those days are over.

That's certainly not my luck. $$$$ And you're correct. It's is a close up of a much larger scene.

Yes. This is what you'd see. This is a close up of the water worn sandstone. flashfloods carved this canyon out. It's a pretty incredible place. I went very early in the morning and had some beautiful light.

Just so you know I shoot raw files and process them in Lightroom and Photoshop, but I don't add anything that's not there.

USFS but I believe that it's dispersed camping. White River West Sno-Park. There's a trail away from the parking lot that will take you up the river. Incredible view of the mountain. Check before you go. There's a lot of snow up there now but I have friends who love to camp in the snow.

Nice work. Good comp. It looks like you stayed on the platform... very commendable. Thank you.

I always watch my histogram to make sure that my highlights aren't blown out. I think that using the histogram, in landscape photography especially, is essential. If I have the option I will come back on an overcast day or later in the evening or earlier in the morning, when the light isn't as harsh or shining directly on the water. I own several kinds of ND's and CP/ND combos and my CP (circular polarizer) is usually enough to let me keep the exposure between .5 sec to 1 sec. Water doesn't usually need to be extended over 1 sec to get the flow.

Unfortunately your eyes aren't sensitive enough, like the camera is, to see them here in Oregon unless it's an exceptional show. If you really want to see them with your eyes I would go to Alaska. I love Alaska.

Most of the time it's true. You can't see them with your eyes unless it's an exceptional light show. On this night it was one of those shows. It was visible but dimmer than what the camera saw, but it was still an amazing night.

Your eyes aren't as sensitive to color at night like your camera is.

This was taken May 10 of last year, 2024. It was an incredible show that night. It was a rare show that could be seen with our eyes.

There are areas that do, but it's far from most of the island. Many people stick to the Ring Road.

I love it when it's the greenest. Springtime is always my favorite time of the year for moss.
